Why is there no Security Section in the Forum?

Post by robert_m_muench »

We all know that QTS is pretty weak and get's infected pretty easily. Why isn't there a special section on the forum where we can discuss all security-related topics? IMO would make a lot of sense.

only qnap can add sections to this forum ...they like to keep things hush hush ..in terms of security issues though

Yes, I know. That's why I want to get as much support for this from the community...

So, any @QNAP moderators around? When will see a section just about security topics?

Security matters of concern are announced by QNAP here (strongly recommend you subscribe to their newsletter)
https://www.qnap.com/en/security-advisory

or here in their QTS release notes
https://www.qnap.com/en/release-notes/q ... 3/20190818

qnap security policy
https://www.qnap.com/en/about/con_show. ... wone&cid=4

afaik, qnap tends to prefer that users discretely report security flaws to them
https://service.qnap.com/en/user/support

i believe if there is a publicly known security flaw affecting QNAP, then it's probably better for the users to mention it on the forum, if only to warn other users about the issue. no point trying to hide that when the cats out of the bag so speak.

or if a flaw gets ignored from being patched, then some users i see would start a thread to pressure qnap to do something about it :)

i usually post on the user forum if i spot something serious :X
