makes me glad i went for a ts-877 for the amd ryzen.... intel has been disappointing vs amd since ryzen came around.

it's only recently that intel finally admitted they are losing market share to AMD, and for good reason.

but you do make a good point... i wonder if something will be done about it.

On Intel's side, yes something is being done. They have a new F1 stepping of the CPU with mitigation for the issues. I suppose the question is how will Qnap handle this? The thought of thousands of customers needing to mail in units for repair is frightening,

As far as AMD vs. Intel is concerned, neither is so perfect.

Intel backpedals on the PCN released just a couple days ago. They now say the PCN was issued incorrectly and the F1 stepping is not to address more serious quality/reliability issues with the J3455 and other CPU's. Bizarre.

Probably why my TS-453B died after no more than 8 months of use.

It may have been past the 12 month mark. I honestly can’t remember.

I hear that, especially with all the Spectre and Meltdown and and.... (Aren't there like 4 of them lately?). I have a TS-453bmini and I am not a happy camper at the moment.

Looks like the desktop is going to get a Ryzen 3xxx over this garbage. Tired of Intel lately.

yeah i also considering a ryzen 3 as well.

Only downside is amd doesn't thunderbolt 3, but that seems to be the only major downside. It has PCIE 4 which Intel has fallen behind? but that said, AMD known for their cheap motherboards also now has a price increase due to adding PCIE 4

I was looking at the Steel Legend X570 and I think it does have Thunderbolt-3:
- 1 x Thunderbolt™ AIC Connector (5-pin) (Supports ASRock Thunderbolt™ 3 AIC Card R2.0 only)
https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X570%20St ... cification

Also has an Intel NiC and Realtek 1220. Almost can't go wrong at the price point.
Heard some mumblings about the ASUS and Gigabyte having better VRM's, but it is a non-issue if you ask me due to this doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =639584818
It can provide 200 Amps to O/C a 3950X if you need, but I could care less about the O/C portion.

Some notes about this board that I made:
It has and adequate VRM that can overclock up to a 3950X. - Neutral

It has an Intel NIC - Positive

It has a Realtek 1220 with good caps and dual layer paths - Positive.

ASUS at the $200 price point:

It has a great VRM. - Positive for extreme overclockers.

It has a Realtek 1220 audio - Positive.

It has a Realtek LAN - Negative.

Gigabyte at the $200 price point:

It has a great VRM - Positive for extreme overclockers.

It has an Intel NIC - Positive.

It has a Realtek 1200 - Negative as this is not up to the quality of the 1220.

I forgot to mention the MSI. Something is wrong with it at the $200 price point. In testing, it is running 40C hotter than the other boards in this list.

Note I think Thunderbolt 3 is rare around the $200 price point I am looking. The higher end boards have it I think, but not down around where I am looking. The Steel Legend I think is the only one around $200. I am fairly sold on this board. It is in my shopping cart, but I am still reading and learning before I hit the button.

last time when i bought an asus ivy bridge motherboard the p8-z77-v deluxe, it also promised something similar to a tb header (with a later coming tb addon). but it never happened :S

I think you need Rev 2.0 of this card, but this one is Rev 1 is available for purchase: https://www.amazon.com/Asrock-Thunderbo ... way&sr=8-1

So where you may have been screwed in the past, you will get what you want here. The boards may be too new for the Rev 2 version yet. Since the Rev 1 exists, they are definitely making them.

Details of the Rev 2 - https://www.asrock.com/mb/spec/product. ... AIC%20R2.0
