So discussion is out of the equation.....

There are a few ads ok. so you going to move to Synology or Thuecus because of it, really?

I hope everyone that is ** about a few ads on a NAS is also going to do the following:

1. move house because your get junk mail in the post,
2. change your email address because of spam emails,
3. change your web browser because you seen an advert?
4. dont visit a website because of adverts?
5. turn your TV off when adverts come on?
6. go find something more meaningful that a little ad in the corner of a GUI since you spend less than 1% of your entire lives logged into the GUI.

I'm sorry but this type of knee jerk reaction is laughable. Complain to QNAP by all means, submit a ticket, move on..

Personally, I seen 2 ads, so what? I found where it resided, renamed the folder, and that is it fixed. I then moved on with life.

dont let a few ads turn into you into ** fest for the rest of your existence - please.

@Toxic17

You are right that DARcode reaction is totally disproportionate. That does not mean that this QNAP movement is "grotesque" at best. Introducing ads without the possibility of disabling it on devices that are not exactly cheap, is a very low blow and an aberration, both domestically and business.

This kind of unannounced surprises look so needy and very sad.
I feel QNAP is intruding my personal space. Very unprofessionally if you ask me.
I reverted to an earlier firmware, until this is resolved.
Free advice - QNAP, stay professional.
Any issues going back?
what did you go back to?

I have nvidia card issues and container station wont install so am seriously looking at reversing

But nervous as I thought i read there was no going back when upgrading to 1302

I mentioned two already pretty annoying issues, and they both underline QNAP's new approach, I have more gripes like the discontinuation of TwonkyMedia DLNA and the inability to uninstall QNAP apps easily, so I'm keeping the 2 NASes I have and my next one is a Synology, if their software turns out to be less intrusive then I'll make the switch, gradually, as I'm not happy paying upwards of EUR 400 for annoyances, I want to use my NASes, not spend time fixing what's wrong with them.

Twonky is still available on my TS-253A NAS and I'm using it, but if I wanna disable the bloated Multimedia Console to prevent it from indexing everything (not just what I wanna publish via DLNA) it kills Twonky too, se here viewtopic.php?f=177&t=150664#p728372.

And what about the Notification Center? Why can't I just uninstall it with a right click?
SSD Profiling too in the absence of any SSD drives anyone? Can only stop it and not uninstall it via GUI, why?
Indexing via Multimedia Console can only be paused, and it resumes at every reboot, why can't it be disabled for good or even restricted to certain folders?
An now ads, great!

I spent hundreds of EUR for these NASes, I should be in control and not have to waste time trying to remove stuff I don't need or want, period.

Please share the location of this "folder" so that others too can disable the unwanted and intrusive ads from QNAP.

I have been running a TS-451 for many years but it is getting older now and I have been thinking about getting a newer and more capable model especially for H265 decoding. I will now seriously need to look at some non-QNAP solutions if this non-secure advertising from QNAP is going to become the new normal.

@darcode..installed from twonky website (with license) needs no multimedia features activated

@ all..while I agree that qnap shouldn't use ads on their qts home ..why are you so often in your qts home ? are you playing with your configs multiple times per day?

My QNAP NAS is for home use. I run many, many apps and various other multimedia functions from my NAS. I never keep the NAS logged in. I log in, do my work, then log back out. This is typically quite a few times each day. I don't really need the added annoyance of having to close the same pop-up multiple times each day..
