[Solved] QNAP GNU Screen

Post by nintendo1889 »

I am running rsync jobs in screen. I have noticed that whenever I login again through ssh, there is no bash cli history

If my ssh goes down to a remote with entware installed, will the rsync cli job be running?

Ok, I found my answer, a screen session survives a full logout, but it will not survive a reboot. This is on a ts-431p with 4.5.1 and the built-in screen.

Why does Job Control (Ctrl-Z, fg, gb) not work in QNAP busybox?

Post by nintendo1889 »

Why does Job Control (Ctrl-Z, fg, gb) not work in QNAP busybox? What packages or shells (or busybox) need to be updated to get the QNAP system to function as a real system?

I have two QNAP systems that I will be syncing together for the first time: a TS-563 (AMD, optware), and a TS-431P (ARM, entware).

You’ll have to ask QNAP why they cripple their embedded OS like they do.

If you want a real Linux system, build a real Linux system, QTS is nothing more than a crippled embedded Linux installation, I have worked with 3rd party router distros that are more complete than QTS.

You also have the option to use entware to install a different shell and go from there.

Yes, that's what I am looking for. Can you point me to a good guide for installing a different shell? I have entware and optware installed (I have ARM and intel models)

Code: Select all

opkg list
will display a list of all the packages available, pick whichever shell you prefer.
