QuTS Hero now available for TVS-x72XT Series
downloadable from here: https://www.qnap.com/en/download?model= ... y=firmware
How do I install this on my QTS configured TVS 872XT?
I turned it off and pulled all drives, rebooted, stared QFinder but when opening the web page I get QTS with an option to change OS but Hero is grayed out.

Have you flashed the downloaded firmware to the QNAP unit via Qfinder directly ?

All set up. Copying data back from my main nas TVS1282T3, The 872XT is backup only. But I figured that ZFS gives me extra protection.

Re: QuTS Hero now available for TVS-x72XT Series
Guys I am trying to install QuTS Hero on my TVS-472XT with no luck.
What am I doing wrong?
Started from QTS 5.0.0.1716.
Control Panel -> Backup/Restore -> Restore to factory default -> Reinitialize NAS
-rebooted-
Started standard GUI setup process and manually updated to QuTS Hero firmware
-rebooted-
NAS has started but the system was in a limited operations mode and requested a license to operate...
Noted that indicated NAS model is "TVS-472X" not "XT" now...
Control Panel -> Backup/Restore -> Restore to factory default -> Reinitialize NAS
-rebooted-
Started standard GUI setup process and manually downgraded to the oldest QTS firmware available (4.4.0.)
-rebooted-
NAS has started normally. No license required.
Control Panel -> Firmware update -> TS-X72_20210708-4.5.4.1723.zip
-upgraded, rebooted-
NAS has started normally. No license required. Indicated NAS model still "TVS-472X".
Control Panel -> Backup/Restore -> Restore to factory default -> Reinitialize NAS
The same startup screen as in the beginning (see screenshot). No alternative firmware selection (only manual update) and model is 472X.
After manual upgrade to QuTS Hero I am back to square one - "Maintenance Mode, License required"
Please help!

Re: QuTS Hero now available for TVS-x72XT Series
Akimov: "manually updated to QuTS Hero firmware" - Does it mean that you download file "h4.5.3.1710 build 20210624" from this web page: https://www.qnap.com/en/download?model= ... y=firmware ,and then you clicked on "update firmware" in Qfinder app, then selected this file and did process of update on the NAS without all HDD and modules? After update and turn off NAS, added clean HDD/M.2 and started new installation?

It does require a license. You will need to contact QNAP to purchase / find the steps needed to get a license for your device.Akimov wrote:Guys I am trying to install QuTS Hero on my TVS-472XT with no luck.

Imho removing HDDs and SSDs should not make any difference but I will give it a try.
Thanks!

Re: QuTS Hero now available for TVS-x72XT Series
Well I have figured it out.
It was a nice easy walk with a caring manufacture holding my hand all the way through...
No it was a show!
1. It doesn't matter how you update your NAS with QuTS Hero firmware during (re)initialization process. Web GUI or Qfinder will give you the same result.
2. You do not need to physically remove your HDDs nor SSDs during (re)initialization process.
3. QuTS Hero license requirement and forced maintenance mode is just a measure implemented by Qnap to limit users ability to use aforementioned firmware on theirs not officially supported NASes. Or maybe Qnap still thinking about charging money for this firmware.
4. The problem with TVS-472XT and QuTS Hero (presumably all x72XT lineup affected) is in my case missing letter "T" in a reported by firmware model name.
The reason why QuTS Hero firmware (and latest regular QTS firmware to that matter) identifies my NAS as TVS-472X is quite amusing.
It looks like Qnap was so keen on not to spend another dime on TVS-x72X lineup development that they used exactly the same hardware as in TVS-x72XT bar Thunderbolt add-on card. Even more Qnap could have made some software level changes to TVS-x72X (I can think of quite a few single bit alterations in BIOS, DOM, etc.) to distinguish it from TVS-x72XT. But no Qnap just removed Thunderbolt add-on card and voila you have a "brand new" lineup two years later.
Anyway the firmware recognizes my NAS as TVS-472XT only when Thunderbolt add-on card is installed.
History snippet: I have swapped Tunderbolt add-on card with GPU the same day I bought TVS-472XT NAS about two years ago and used it primarily as a Plex server ever since.
5. It gets even more amusing.
The problem when a customer can not use TVS-472XT and QuTS Hero without TB add-on card installed could have been easily solved by adding TVS-472X model to the QuTS Hero supported list.
You see officially TVS-472X does not exist. And both TVS-672X and TVS-872X do support QuTS Hero firmware. So adding a few characters to the QuTS firmware code would save me and probably other TVS-472XT customers not using TB card some time and provided user-friendly experience. Right Qnap?
The end.
Well lets hope Qnap will fix it and think harder next time when they want to cut costs (all the time).
PS
I assume TVS-672XT and TVS-872XT customers not using TB card should not be affected by this problem but please do let us know.
PPS
If you thinking to insert TB card to install QuTS Hero and then remove the card no you can not. You will get the same Maintenance mode/License required BS the second you remove TB card.
The workaround for TVS-472XT I could think of for now is to insert TB card in a second PCIe x4 slot (NAS does detects it and QuTS Hero works fine) and use low profile single slot GPU in a first PCIe x16 slot. Not my case as my GPU is double slot but you can try.

A while back QNAP had posted that it would be a paid upgrade for older Devices that did not ship with it, I guess that has changed for the good?
