help with recover volume 419p+ FW:3.5.0

I had firmware 3.4.3 running for a while, and on 3rd of october I let the autoupdater update from 3.4.3 to 3.5.0.

I'm not 100% sure now of when what happend, its starting to become a blur aftr trying to fix this for 10 hours straight.

But at some point the display on the NAS just stalled at: Rebooting System Please wait...
I could access files and all.

If I try updating the firmware now it keeps freezing at 10%.
But it clearly isn't rebooting, even after stopping the 3 QPKG addons (Python, Optware, SABnzbdplus).
Still no restart.

The soft reset didn't work, did go beep, the front panel buttons didn't work. I tried ssh to the NAS via putty and did shutdown and a reboot. Nothing.
After some time the web UI didn't work either, and no connection via ssh/putty. So I manned up and cut the power after hearing that the hd's didn't seem to read or write (sooo scary).

Power back on, all looks ok, I readd 3.5.0 and loads old config.

In Shared Folders I see all the shares, and they look to have the correct size.
I can't access them via windows, or the web file manager.

Going to Raid Management I see a RAID5 and it says I can use recover option, but nothing happends.

They also mentioned these 3 commands, that I didn't dare try yet as I know you can destroy alot with fidsk and I couldn't find online what the -ul option does.

Should I try going back to 3.4.3 firmware?

Ofcause this happends as I was organizing data before doing a backup. :s

After some nice qualified help from Alan from QNAP he found out that updating to 3.5.1 would be enough to fix this. After installing 3.5.1 and a reboot the RAID array was active again. Now just waiting for check desk to make sure the array is clean, but it looked like my data was all there. :)

I had the same issue on a live upgrade from 3.4.0 B 0212T to 3.5.0 and lost access to all files. The raid array seemed to become corrupt and unmounted. I was not able to rebuild it in any way. I tried to restore from a backup config, but that didn't help.

I decided to upgrade to 3.5.1 Build 1002T and upon reboot the raid array automatically began to reconstruct. 7 hours later, I have my files back. I guess I'll be sure to make a backup next time before any live updates.

@kll,

You always need that backup, not only when doing firmware upgrades.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

You can recover RAID data from hard drive with RAID recovery software easily.
