We're now conducting a survery and would really appreciate your help if you can tell us what kind of business software/applications you are using in combination with QNAP NAS products. Some examples may include Quickbook, CRM, ERP, accounting (PeachTree), etc.
Simply reply to this thread and let us know your software options and usages.
Thanks in advance! Jason
hi jason
without a qnap with many GB's I couldn't do my business.
my ts-509 is nowadays a RAID6 with 5 disks a 1TB = 2,5TB (last year it was RAID5); just now RAID6 and ext4 (=mostly certain!!!)

my 1st business: to repair computers (pc-service).
I collect device_drivers for all branches
I must renew op.systems (do You know, what all updates for win_systems costs?)

my 2nd business: to program software for libraries (public and scientific)
this is mostly for data_storage (to safe old projects a.s.o.)

yours klaus

I'm using it mostly for data storage for ESX and Veritas. So far we are using 4 NAS x 16 x 2TB. Important data also rsync/diff to external storage. Also have a couple of small ones as backup target for a couple of web-servers in Europe.

Actually it's already available as QPKG package for easy installation.

I cannot find it via QPKG - where is it?

I'm a personal user none commercial use.

I mainly use my NAS as a web file server and webserver for friends and family... I'm so kind :)
Backing up and saving files to my NAS mainly backup is very important as a mad designer and art designer I like to make sure all my work is backed up so I can access out and about saving my work is safely tucked away on my NAS. This is my first NAS and I am impressed with the server, great support from QNAP forums and very impressed.

I'm not sure if you mean in conjunction with or on the QNAP.

We use it mostly as a file server for documentation, archives, computer images, etc (a lot of technical support resource for software, documentation (wiki running on the web server), and storage).

I'm looking (when the next stable firmware is proved solid) toward activating the MySQL server too in order to test an environment that needs a rock solid file and database server. (To replace a large dell server). It would be used for audio storage and playout for a radio station (running Rivendell (http://www.rivendellaudio.org).

Mostly as a general storage product; we also have one of the largest R-units (rack), and have begun testing it with iSCSI and Windows. Unfortunately, authenticated iSCSI and QNAP aren't the best of friends, so we haven't gotten that far down that path yet.

But as long as you can access the storage from your server or client environment, you can use it with whatever software you want, as long as it needs storage :-)

I have a small network in my house/office containing approx 6 Linux & Windows boxes.
In addition to using the TS-210 for backing up data from all the boxes, I run my own small business software which is web server, mysql, php based.
I have put the mysql data and php scripts onto the TS-210 and enter all the customer data there. The TS-210 mysql server (which is always on) is a replication master, so not only is my data mirrored on the TS-210, it's replicated on other Linux & Windows boxes on the network also.

It took a while to figure out how to set it up, but I now have a very safe and easy way of keeping my important data safely duplicated.

This is a great product for a very good price. The only thing I'd like to see is more info on configuring stuff like I did. I couldn't find any useful help, and it's impossible to do through the web interface.
