Re: TVS-872XT dead after normal shutdown...
Interesting.... For me it doesn't really matter too much that I don't have it, but one thing I liked about the speaker is when the NAS random rebooted, I would hear it talking in the other room so I WTF and knew to go check on it. But,,,thus far with the new mobo I haven't had a single issue, so perhaps I won't miss the speaker! Pretty happy so far!P3R wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 6:55 pmI don't know what happened on what MB or if QNAP have changed back again but what Qmann was talking about and I responded to can be found in the TVS-872XT specifications:
"Audio Output - (The line out jack and speaker are no longer available on units manufactured on or after 2021/1/1)"
I do find it strange that some v1.7 mobos have it and some don't, but I suspect v1.7 boards were in the middle of production when they made the change to remove the speaker resulting in "some have it, and some don't". I still wonder why they removed it in the first place and speculate supply chain issues on getting the speakers on hand to build the boards, and minimizing costs on a NAS model already eating into profit margins with the bad boards. Because of all the v1.3 board going bad, they likely had to quickly get some v1.7 boards build ASAP. Again,, all speculation.

Re: TVS-872XT dead after normal shutdown...
Just another "me too" -- and an observation of how many of us had the same problem at approximately the same date. My TVS-672N (not XT) was cleanly shut down and unplugged on Oct 23 as I was heading on vacation, and upon return on Nov 9, the power button did nothing. Some back'n'forths and diagnosis with QNAP support and they gave me an RMA. I shipped my N to them and it arrived at their California service location yesterday, and today I learned that they'll be replacing it with a TVS-672XT. Presumably it will have the V2.0 (or at least V1.7) motherboard with the now-well-known mb issue resolved and will give me a decade of service.

Here is the same shot from my TVS-872XT (MoBo ver. 1.7), showing the speaker connection.Qmann wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 1:17 am Interesting.... so there is a lot of components missing around that speaker connector .. so just soldering that in is probably not an option

Looks like there is a chip there (U109) as well as a bunch of resistors and components.

Re: TVS-872XT dead after normal shutdown...
Oh man! I see that now! I didn't even think about missing chips or the whole DSP being gone. This just makes it even of a mystery on why it's back for v2.0 boards. Perhaps the v1.7 board was also used in other NAS configurations where it was originally marketed without sound. Hard to say...

Not exactly - like I said, I have ver. 1.7 of the MoBo, and I have the speaker connection, the chips, etc.

Re: TVS-872XT dead after normal shutdown...
After being hit by the "red LED of death" issue last month, I now received a brand new QNAP-TVS-872XT back on extended warranty last Tuesday, 23.11.2021.
Great and - given the current circumstances - still fast support by QNAP.
RAM, GPU, NVMes, disks installed again and operation's back to normal!
Migration to new system worked flawlessly.
If you have similar issues, raise a ticket with support and point them to this thread.
Cheers and good luck to all of you whose blood pressure is still high... ! Wish you all the best.

Re: TVS-872XT dead after normal shutdown...
My migration was similarly painless, in summary:
1. Power up new NAS without disks and upgrade firmware to latest QTS 4.x, then shut down.
2. Fit memory, HDDs, MVNs etc. Make sure disks are in original order.
3. Powered up and all was restored.
I subsequently installed an i7-8700T which took less than 10 mins, and upgraded to QTS 5.0. All told, great service from QNAP and I have been converted to a promoter of the brand to anyone interested in listening!
Once they fix the QTS 5.0 'Fisherprice' jumbo icons all will be perfect again

@leex12, do you know the MB version and manufacture date on your failed unit? I was rather hoping that lightning would not strike twice, if this is a recently manufactured unit!
