Few questions TS-451+

Post by Hdp160 »

I've got two QNAPs

TS-451 (commissioned 2015) 4x 4Tb
TS-451+ (still in the box)

1. Am I correct both these NAS have PoE on both their gigabit lan sockets?

2. My network is only 1 gigabit so each NAS doesn't benefit from having both its lan sockets connected to the network?

3. When I upgrade the RAM on the 451+ will a single 8gb DDR3L SO stick work in one slot, or do I have to go 2x 4gb?

4. Other than having both NAS existing on the same subnet independently is there a better way for them to work together?

5. A few more questions to follow :- )

Sorry for these basic questions but if you don't know you have to ask.. right?

Thanks in anticipation

1. No PoE on any of those (what would be the purpose of it?)
2. Don't bother with trunking or ay like that, just run them on 1GbE connection
3. Should work .. you gotta try
4. Not sure what yu mean

Thanks dolbyman
1. For ip cameras with PoE... looks like I'll have to get a small switch.
2. Using just one lan connection on each then.
3. Perhaps someone has tried this.
4. I wonder if there's a way to connect them together perhaps with a cross over cable or something.

4. That would still be a network connection (you don't need crossover cables anymore .. for over a decade now)

4. Yup .. I built my current cat5e network 20 years ago when it was new... the previous was the one with the bnc connectors (thick internet) I also had significant interconnectivity with serial cables between transmitters and pcs. That's where I muddled up crossover cables for programming eeproms etc. And in work those huge scsi leads pigtailed between 5 or 6 DEC tape machines in the 1990s and remembering to fit a terminationon on the last machine.... ahhh memories

Back to the plot I hope I get some feedback on people's 100 ohm long term experience though..
