Speed Test : TR-002

Post by jmv »

Has anyone run disk performance tests on a TR-002 DAS ?
I am not sure what to expect so any insight on this would be useful.

I performed the following disk performance test.
TR-002 connected directly to a Mac via the DAS USB 3.2 Gen 2 port to the Mac Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) (speeds up to 40Gbps)
TR-002 Raid 0 with 2 Red WD 4TB SATA 6Gb/s https://www.westerndigital.com/en-ca/pr ... d#WD40EFAX

AJA System Test Lite results: Write : 218MBs , Read : 289MBs
Blackmagic Disk Speed Test : Write : 235MBs , Read : 292MBs

SATA speed is 6Gbs or 750 MBs
USB 3.2 gen 2 speed : upto 10Gbs or 1250 MBs
USB-C speed : upto 40Gbps or 5000 MBs

So I assume the speed is limited by the SATA speed of 750 MBs

Would anyone know why the actual speed tests are roughly only 40% of the maximum 750 MBs?
What are the expected values for the speed tests under my conditions ?
Are those numbers good? Bad?

Thanks
JM

250MB/s +/- is what that little controller in the TR units is capable of

mbealo mentions in viewtopic.php?t=147865

Now I get about 275 MB/s sustained writes, and still at 800 MB/s sustained reads utilizing SMB. Slows down to about 260 MB/s writes and 570 MB/s reads via AFP. All of that is with Jumbo Frames (9000). When I was on the phone with QNAP, the tech had me try Standard (1500). With that setting the Writes are the same, but the Reads slow to 415 MB/s over SMB. Reads increased to 650 MB/s over AFP with Standard (1500).

880 MBs read over SMB ?
Why can't I even get more than 300 MBs over USB 3.2 Gen 2 port ?

Probably tested it wrong .. I highly doubt that user actually got speeds from that TR004 device (might have been cached locally)

4 spinning disks in any device giving 800MB\s read seems VERY high
