Disk Managment Disabled

Post by graemev »

I'm loath to install install
Security Counselor ...esp. having read some the comments herein.

But I thought I ought to poke around and check myself, one place I went was:

Control Panel -> System Status -> system Service

Code: Select all

AntiVirus	Enabled
Apple Networking Enabled
DDNS Disabled
DNLA Enabled
Disk Management	Disabled
...
What! , Wait! ...Surely "Disk Management" is the whole point of a NAS ? I assume therefor it does not mean what it appears to mean? Any thought?

That is ISCSI .. do you use ISCSI?, If not, then it's correct to be disabled

I don't
Hardly surprising people leave dangerous stuff "just lying around" :-) . Imagine we have a service called:

Code: Select all

Networking: Enabled (yes , I know there is no such service)
When a fuller description might be:

Networking: Enabled (a mythical service that opens a hole though your firewall and advertises to the world it's a QNAP box userid=guest password=guest, allows 3rd parties to fix your config problems )

Code: Select all

[ Rather like wiz mode of sendmail of old ]
