Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
I guess - I’m just thinking about aspects the pin alignment - is it straight forward match, going from the original usb fitting to the other one ? +5v gnd?

Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
For the USB that I had the 4pin header was an exact match. You can get the female headers by googling IoT development PCB's and connections. I bought mine on Amazon a few years ago as I used them in my IoT projects.
As for the GND, +5V you just need to pay attention on your USB before de-soldering the USB head. Make a note where GND is. You can find USB A diagrams all over the net.
Once you have the new header soldered on the PCB put both modules side by side and make a note where GND is, then plug your new module to match.
To note: there are 2 rows of pins on the motherboard but only the top ones (see pointing arrows below) are used. To make sure the bottom pins don't make any contact to my new dom I placed a small tape on the board.

Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
I would need an .img to insert into a usb key for a TS-253 PRO.
But not F_TS-X53_20140916-1.2.8.img but an image already decrypted by TS-X53_20210406xxxxx.
Can someone help me?
Thank you

Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
i noticed that elvi outright just replace the eusb dom rather than use a usb stick. just saying, you could do it that way if you wanted to.
Personally i went 2 other different routes
- use an external M.2 nvme SSD external enclosure
- use a 2.5'' sata ssd internally
But i used truenas though so hadn't tested if qts could work that way or not o-O;

[HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
Put in a ticket with QNAP. They have replacement DOMs in stock and can send you a replacement.
The other option is to put image on USB thumb drive, plug in external USB port, then change BIOS to boot off USB flash drive.
No soldering required!

Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
Thanks for the reply.
The problem is that the usb ports no longer go.
For this reason I was looking for an image to write directly in the dom

Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
A common problem with computers is dust getting pulled into the USB ports from cooling airflow.
It can cause USB ports to stop functioning and cause a short circuit, which can even cause the computer to reset and/or stop booting.

Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
really when i turn on the nas the usb ports work. If I attack a keyboard I can enter the bios for example.
As soon as the kernel of the s.o. (both from dom and from usb) the usb ports no longer work.

Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
Have you ruled out that one of your USB devices is shorting out or drawing too much power? USB will depower itself if current draw is too high. It’s possible it could even be the DOM if it went bad or was damaged.

Re: [HowTo] Replace broken DOM module with a simple USB stick
I don't have any usb devices connected. The dom I changed and reprogrammed. But it doesn't start.
I can't find the the NAS using Qfinder. I can see it gets an IP in router console, but MAC address seems to be incorrect: 00:00:00:00:05:09

Well that is different. “Doesn’t start” is a bit vague and “USB not working”
is a little short on details.
That could be the NIC is locked up. Remove power, press and hold the power button to discharge standby power, confirm the Ethernet port lights stop blinking, plug in power, and power up.
The more symptoms you describe, the more it sounds like the LPC issue.
If that doesn’t help, open a ticket with QNAP.
