Connecting via VPN from MacOS to TS-421 renders NAS unresponsive

Post by remino »

Hi,

Odd issue here. When I try to connect to the L2TP/IPSec VPN of my TS-421 from outside my LAN using my MacBook running macOS 10.12.5, the NAS stops responding. All connections already established to it from other computers (like SMB and AFP) will drop, and I can no longer connect to the control panel, even within the LAN. When I get to the physical control panel of the NAS and ask it to restart, it will say it’s restarting, but hangs. I have to force it to shut down and restart it.

Even weirder is I can connect to the same VPN, use it, and disconnect from it via my iPhone without causing a problem to the NAS.

Is there anything that can be done about this?

Don't think anyone has a solution for this. I just gave up and enabled OpenVPN on the NAS and installed Tunnelblick on my Mac.

Now, I just use OpenVPN on my Mac and L2TP on my iPhone. It does the job.
