concerned Domain Controller message

Post by SparkyMarcopolo »

Received a couple of alerts yesterday from our US office where the source was reported as our QNAP units performing a brute force attack. I wasn't convinced but noticed a message on one of our units trying to communicate with a DC that is not in the domain settings (Although I had just setup an external trust between my domain the domain mentioned)

Type Date Time Users Source IP Computer name Content
Warning 2017/09/18 13:23:22 System 127.0.0.1 localhost [Security mode] Domain controller (trust DC.domain.local) disconnected, failover to (trust DC.domain, local)

Why would a NAS that I authenticated as a member within our domain (not the external) be attempting to establish communication with an external trust DC...This rings alarms bells for me?
