anyone checked what's going on exactly with the motherboard from hardware perspective level?

I bought my TVS-872XT in the US in December 2018, and QNAP is pretty adamant that the warranty for that NAS is "only" 2 years. I am having a discussion with them at the moment about an issue I logged tickets on last year, but only now do they want me to send it in for a motherboard replacement, which they want to charge me USD1,000 for. If you have any place you can point me to that says QNAP had increased this to 5 years, I sure would like it...

You might be correct, maybe it's a blown capacitor or a resistor.. Who knows!

Anyone with dead TVS-x72XT please take close up pictures for the motherboard, and if possible remove the cpu heat sink as well for more photo around the CPU! I'm really disappointed and I really feel your agony!
I have the same family device and my turn could be soon as well :(

For whom already sent their nas to Qnap, can you ask to clarify what's the reason behind the failure in details?

Thank you in advance.

I own a TVS-872x with a manufacturer date of April 2021, mine is OK so far, after reading this thread, out of interest I opened it up to look for revision markings.
I would be interested to see if there is a change in motherboard in these over time, mine is marked as TVS-x72xt MB V1.7
It can be hard to see it is behind the CPU fan, you need to get on the right angle with good light - see attached photo.

I did a google image search and found a picture of a motherboard from a 2019 review/teardown, it shows a V1.3, so there have been some revisions to the hardware. It would be interesting to see if we can correlate the problem to a hardware revision, for those who have had failures it may be easier to petition QNap to replace the faulty part outside of warranty.

What is interesting is that there has been some people reporting that the problem repeated even on a second board after they replaced the first one. I have not rebooted my unit for a few months now and unfortunately there is some network gizmos in QTS making samba not discoverable with its network name after some time which is not unique to this unit so I am having to its IP address when using samba. The problem goes away only after a reboot of the NAS. I will look at my board revision the next time I open my unit.

Thanks for the revision pictures.

I get a new ups power brick tomorrow and will shut down my nas, and take a look.

With quts hero coming out for tvs-872xt i was thinking of buying this processor

Will need ecc ram though.

I've just had my TVS-872XT die after a reboot, following a firmware update. It has just gone a few days outside the warranty period, but thankfully QNAP have raised an RMA and advised they will deal with it under warranty. I'm about to send it in (Australia), we'll see how we go.

My motherboard is 1.3 following the posts above. Even if it gets replaced, the length of this thread has me doubting whether to trust this unit in the future.

Well, add another 872XT to the list. It's at a remote location and I'm told the power button doesn't do anything. Will crack it open and take a look tomorrow. It was purchased back in March 2019, so yeah...fun times.

TVS-672XT just died after the last firmware update a few days ago.

Sounds like the same issue.

Replaced the power supply but no luck.

Board says 872XT v1.3

Add another 872XT to the dead list. Same won't power on issue as everyone else. Died with 3 weeks left on the 2 year warranty. Arrived at QNAP Pomona 7/14/21 and now awaiting repair/replacement.

Mine 872XT died a month ago (thankfully there was still 2 months left on the 2 year warranty). And a week ago got a replacement - new one.

You can add me to the list. Pretty much the same symptoms as everyone else here. Purchased January 2020.
