SSH Problem - Permission Denied on Admin Account

Post by adrian007uk »

I am having the anti virus update problem. I have found a potential solution to the problem on the forum (viewtopic.php?f=345&t=152727).

I have installed Putty and logged into the admin account via Putty. However, i keep getting permission denied when trying to access /etc/config/def_share.info. I have checked that the admin account has Read/Write access to all folders. Does somebody know what i am doing wrong please?

Thanks

Adrian

when you "access" the file, what exactly are you doing and what commands are you using? are you just using the setcfg command?

how about using WinSCP, login and goto the location of the file, then edit the file with notepad++ and save back to original location.

Hi Simon - thanks for replying. I managed to work my way through the steps as set out in the thread you linked to. /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA was already set as it should be. Still trying to work out the problem when i was logged into the forum, i found a big thread of posts (i did search previously so i am not sure why they did not show up) that were discussing similar anti virus problems. I think mine has stopped updating as my NAS is coming to EOL support! Why the NAS its trying to update the antivirus if it's no longer supported seems strange.

I recently tried to login to my TS-453 Pro using ssh. I have not tried using ssh before.
But my admin login was denied. The admin login works fine using the web interface.
After much googling without really finding a solution, I tried to change the admin password, again using the web interface.
Being lazy I typed a new password where only a single character was changed, but that was refused because password should be minimum 8 characters long it said.
I chose a longer password which was accepted.
Now the ssh login worked.
I wonder if the ssh login was denied because my old password didn't meet the criteria?
I have no way of knowing. Just FYI.
