moving from TS-253D to TS-473

Post by gary_nap »

Hello,

According to the migration compatibility document, I can't just move disks. So I am going to have to do some type of restore or sync.

My query revolves around the most efficient way with least amount of work to get my files to the TS-473.
Facts
  • I have a full USB external backup using HBS.
  • I will create needed logins including group assignments on the TS-473 before the migration starts.
  • TS-253D will remain intact until the migration has been completed.
  • Single volume on both TS-253D and TS-473
  • Both are running QTS v4.5.2.1594.
  • Both are running HBS v15.1.0225.
Questions
  • Is there a preference between a HBS one-way sync, HBS restore, or some other method?
I'm thinking about moving the external USB backup to the TS-473 to do a restore. (Avoids network traffic.)
  • Do I need to pre-create my non-standard shared folders, and set permissions before moving files?
Or, will a HBS sync or restore job create missing shared folders and retain permissions from the old TS-253D? Any missing shared folders will be created as shared folders.
Regards,
Gary
