Hopefully an easy one for someone out there....
Just bought a TS-453D to replace my TS-451. When I access using https://<nas-ipaddress> it immediately reverts to http://<nas-ipaddress>/cgi-bin/ and I get nasty messages from browser about being unsafe.
"The certificate for this site is not valid.
Because this connection is not secure, information (such as passwords or credit cards) will not be securely sent to this site and may be intercepted or seen by others.
We suggest you don't enter personal information into this site or avoid using this site."
Never got this on my old TS-451.
Using Win 10 and Edge Chromium browser.

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
Your NAS is using a self-signed certificate. A warning from your browser about this is quite normal.
Either add an exception for the NAS self-signed cert to your browser, or only use HTTP (which means: no SSL, no certificate). You don't need to use HTTPS if you're only accessing the NAS within your LAN.
If your NAS login UI is reachable from the Internet, then you REALLY do have an unsafe setup. You need to immediately close any ports forwarded from your router to the NAS. QNAP NAS are not hardened enough for exposure to the public Internet. Even QNAP acknowledged this a while back: https://blog.qnap.com/nas-internet-connect-en/

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
Thanks OneCD. Just checking it was normal, since I don't remember this issue with the TS-451.
I am unable to stay signed in to the nas (even though "remember me" is ticked). I thought it was due to Http. So I want to use https to see if it is better.
I know how to import a cert to Edge. But where do I find the QNAP cert to download/export??

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
the question if the nas is web exposed was not answered/evaded
any browser can add exceptions to invalid certs ..look it up for the one that you are using

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
That checkbox doesn't keep you signed-in to the QTS UI. It only helps your browser pre-fill the login details.mikeincairns wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 10:33 pm I am unable to stay signed in to the nas (even though "remember me" is ticked).
If you sign-in to QTS, then exit from your web-browser and re-launch it, you'll need to sign-in again.

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
I'm sorry - have to come back to this question as I don't believe it was answered satisfactorily. Here is what happens when I use a browser:
1. Type 192.168.1.100 in the browser address OR type http://192.168.1.100 I get a message
Forbidden You don't have permission to access this resource.
2. Type https://192.168.1.100 in the browser I get a message
Your Connection isn't private
I click Advanced
I click Continue to 192.168.1.100 (unsafe)
Browser shows https (with red strikethrough)://192.168.1.100/cgi-bin/
I can then login. Surely this is not right. Something is wrong. It never happened on the old TS-451.

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
I just got the answer from QNAP support. Need to add the port number after the IP and it's all good.
http://192.168.1.100:8080 gets me straight in.

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
I have the same issue.
Before (and i mean about 2 weeks ago going back for a couple of years)
I could just type
http://192.168.100.50
and now I only get
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access this resource.
Image? ... can get screen shot.. but how to post here? need to put a link?
Trying to find out what happened. I have noticed that the firmware was updated a couple of weeks ago. I updated the firmware manually also, same..
The port 80 is open... and port 8080 is working. I assume that 80 is same as 8080.. but why does not work anymore?
I was suspecting a malware or virus. But my NAS is behind a private network NAS (no open ip or ports to the outside). I can only access thru myqnap page.
Thanks

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
Apparently there has been a change. You have to type the port number http://192.168.1.100:8080
Here is the reply I got from QNAP Support.
Here is the reply I got from QNAP Support.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting QNAP support team.
In NAS QTS 4.5.4_20210630 or later version of firmware, for security purposes, it's necessary to enter both the NAS IP address and NAS system port number (for instance:http://NAS_IP_ADDRESS:8080) into the address, that is why when you type "192.168.1.100 in the browser address OR type http://192.168.1.100", the browser cannot open NAS login web UI, see our FAQ as below link
Why can't just enter NAS_IP_ADDRESS in web browser to access the NAS since QTS 4.5.4_20210630?

Re: Connect to NAS via PC browser
Hmm, looks like QNAP have removed that FAQ page.
