NAS Extremely Slow

Post by gregeeh »

Hi all,

My TS-128A, 4.5.4.1723, has suddenly started to going extremely slow with everything. Logging in via the browser takes around a minute, SSH around 30 secs before you get to the menu, even opening an app window is not instant anymore. Network transfer speeds are around 5-10 MB/s instead of the usual 100-110. The whole thing is just dead slow.

Have rebooted several times, which takes forever and once you can login it can take 45 minutes for the services/apps to all start up.

CPU is running between 5-10% and RAM around 50-60%, network is only a couple of hundred bytes per second (B/s), but the whole thing has completely slowed down.

Any ideas appreciated.

TIA

EDIT: Getting this message a lot too!

EDIT2: Strange that iperf is OK, but when trying to copy from NAS to PC it's around 5 MB/s

EDIT3: Here is top output.

Well, I think I have found the issue.

ffmpeg is extracting subtitles from all my video files causing a high read usage on the HDD.

Can this extraction be stopped?

TIA

Over 470 views and no one can tell me how to stop ffmpeg extracting these subtitles. After further investigation I believe this is being called by the process mysubextractor, any help is appreciated.

Maybe we're assuming it will be completed before any response.
TS-431+ for storage and media and a bunch of IP cams under Surveillance Station. TVS-473 as files backup and QVR Pro.

We have no idea what programs you have installed, ffmpeg does not willy Nilly go over your NAS and extract anything...

What is installed, what are the settings?

This has nothing to do with what I've installed, the QNAP process mysubextractor is causing the issue so this needs to be stopped or disabled.
