Qfinder Pro 7.5.1 on Ubuntu Mate cannot update via GUI?

Post by sdnas »

I use:

Code: Select all

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:	Ubuntu
Description:	Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Release:	20.04
Codename:	focal

$ mate-about --version
MATE Desktop Environment 1.24.0
I downloaded Qfinder Pro, and installed it via:

Code: Select all

$ sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/QNAPQfinderProUbuntux64-7.5.1.0708a.deb
So, now I try to update it via "Check for updates":

It tells me "A new version (7.5.1.0708) of Qfinder Pro is available.":

I click "Download" there, download starts, and completes (the image captures the start only, before scrollbar completes):

Finally, it tells me "Download complete. ... Click "OK" to start the installation":

So, I do click OK here ... and ... nothing happens; program just stays as it is, and there are no apparent changes.

I also tried calling the program from the command line, by calling:

Code: Select all

/usr/local/bin/QNAP/QfinderPro/QfinderPro.sh
... however, I did not see any messages relevant to the update process.

So my questions are:
  • Where (in what path/directory) does this downloaded update file end up, when it is completed?
  • How can I get the update process, as initiated from the GUI, to complete correctly?
I just now noticed that the reported new version (7.5.1.0708) is actually the same (presumably) as the one I got installed from the .deb I downloaded ( ...-7.5.1.0708a.deb) - so I guess, there might be a bug where an new update online is reported, even if it is the same version as the one currently running. If that is the case, it is extremely confusing, and I'd call it a UI/UX bug - does anyone know what is going on here?

I guess the "a" at the end means it's seen as a different version. ;)

Please report this to QNAP by creating a support ticket.

Hi @OneCD,

Thanks for the response:

Ah, good catch - I'm not used to parsing letters in what I expect to be version strings (numbers and dot) :)
