WD Elements 25A2 1tb Spin Down ?

Post by westover »

Just wondering if anyone has one of these connected to their NAS and can confirm whether it's spins down or not when inactive

TIA

needs to be configured with the manufacturer tools first

connect to.a windows or mac computer and set the spindown timeout

Does that mean that by deafult there is no spindown or does this utilty just adjust the default timing delay

the utility activates a timer on the usb to sata controller..when no data request in x amount of seconds, the disk goes into standby .. nothing for the nas to do

Thanks, I access the NAS remotely so won't be able to do this for some time, hence the question about a default timing
So rather than have the prospect of this 2.5" possibly spinning 24/7 I will get the office to buy two 256gb USB 3 pen drives,
512gb are currently too pricey, well the genuine ones are :)
