TS 439 Pro II, iSCSI, Win2008R2, NTFS error [SOLVED]

Post by lrosa »

I have a TS4329 Pro II with two 2 Tb hdd RAID1, latest (3.3.6 Buld 1110T) firmware.

I created a thin providioned iSCSI target, no CHAP:

I am able to connect the iSCSI from a Windows 2008 R2, I can write, read, create directories, copy files, format....

After a couple of hours the iSCSI file system become unusable and Windows gives this error:
location not available.png
The Windows System Event log is flooded with this error:

The System logs of QNAP NAS do not contain any kind of error.

Suggestions?

Thank you in advance

The 439 series runs a poorly written iSCSI software implementation called IET.
Hopefully QNAP moves to a different iSCSI software implementation with their x59 series, that's why they passed the VMware Ready certification.

Have a read of this post -> TS-410 iSCSI Version: 3.2.3 VMware ESXi4 LOST ALL VM's

Solved.

The problem was the disk standby mode.

When System Administration / Hardware / Enable hard disk standby mode option is enabled the problem described above happens as soon as the disks enter in power save mode.
