HP 1215 PSC (all-in-one) not on list. Does anyone actually know how to override this? Can't you just upload some generic drivers? Does anyone reply to these posts or do QNAP just quietly go away and right their wrongs??

TS-410 with inkjet Epson 1400 works fine.
Except the ink level information. Any hints how to fix this? (if possible)
Thank you

Tested TS-459 Pro II on various older Samsung Laser printers 1410,1510,1710 and after loading standard Samsung Universal Driver all works OK.

HINT: Any non-supported USB Printer that show READY and have driver for system in use, I would suggest that you firstly install it locally on that PC and than from QNAP. The reason why to do that is that way you will have driver installed on PC and it is then just selection from Menu.

Last week I succeeded to get the Brother HL-1430 at work in my home-network with Qnap 209 pro (firmware version 2.1.0 build 0624T)
- on a Windows 98 desktop: no problem at all.
- on 2 Window XP laptops: also easy.
- on my Windows Vista desktop: by trial and error after various attempts.
Everything works well, as far I can see after a week working with this configuration.
Little bit strange for me: on the Vista the port is descripted as 'Client Side Rendering Provider'. I'm no expert, so I had never heard of that.
The device configuration on my Qnap says:
Manufacturer: Unknown
Model: Unknown
Status: Ready

Geert
Can you remember how you did this as I could not connect it to a QNAP 209 Pro II... and still can't after all these years :)

your printer is not on the compatible printer list.

https://www.qnap.com/i/en/product_x_gra ... I=156&hf=0

if it worked on your DLINK NAS, why would you expect it to work with the QNAP? they are totally different vendors.

if anyone has an issue with Printers and there NAS, check the compatability list first, then Submit a ticket with QNAP.

Re: [Discussion] USB Printer Compatibility List

I really don't understand why this thread even exists. It has been going since 2007, and not much has changed in all these years. This feature still claims:
USB Printer wrote:"The NAS supports network printing sharing service over local network and the Internet in Windows, Mac, and Linux (Ubuntu) environments. Up to 3 USB printers are supported"
.

Similarly, QNAP Tutorial: How to set up a network printer via QNAP NAS? talks about setting up "Network" printers, even though this feature has never supported any "Network" printers at all.

QNAP still has not integrated CUPS (UNIX Print Server) support into Samba, so QNAP NAS devices still can not serve up Printer drivers to Windows network clients via the non-existent $PRINT share on the NAS. QNAP has finally started improving the "Logging" done on the NAS, but the NAS has no printer drivers whatsoever, so NAS owners can not even print out their logs, unless they download them to a PC and print them from there.

The initial message in this thread seems to indicate that QNAP actually cares about this issue, but if the educated reader actually reads though the entire thread, it becomes quite apparent that QNAP does not read this thread at all, and does not even attempt to actually "fix" this glaring shortcoming of the Firmware, despite the existence of this thread.

I love my NAS, and I will continue to use and support it for other people, but IMHO this entire thread should be permanently "locked", as it serves no useful purpose whatsoever, except to further highlight QNAP's negligence as actually attempting to provide a useful Network Printing solution for it's customers.

If QNAP would put some effort into providing real "Network Print Server" and "E-Mail Server" solutions in the Firmware, QNAP could start "grabbing" huge chunks of Enterprise "Exchange Server" and "Business Server" budgets, by providing real alternatives to Microsoft's expensive solutions. As long as the Firmware only provides partial solutions, it will be relegated to "secondary" server status within Enterprise networks. The tools to do this properly are already in the GPL world, so there is no excuse for these shortcomings.

I probably wouldn't be nearly as blunt/direct about these massive shortcomings, if I saw at least some effort from QNAP to actually address these issues within the Firmware. As it stands now, this feature is barely adequate for Home users with "toy" Printers. (ie USB Printers). Network printers are becoming mainstream now, even low-end consumer-grade Inkjet printers now support Network printing and scanning, but QNAP still does not support "any" of them.

This depressing thread has been going since 2007, and still nothing has improved at all.

Hi all,

first let me say, i'm quite new to Qnap (running since 3 days) and may be i'm not aware of all qnaps documents.

@ SIMON:
I was aware of the compatible printer list. But thx for providing the links twice. And i was aware, that the old Hp Laserjet 2100 is not on this list.
And since i'm able to read, i know that the meaning of QNAP is not the same as D-Link. Its' quite astonishing that these are different vendors. But again thx for pointing that out.
The reason why i was expecting, that i might print with qnap is :
1.) The driver, my printer is working with D-Link, is in this compatible printers list ( HP Laserjet 2200 )
2.) Even this not compatible printer is reckognized in status ready. So i didn't uderstand why it should not be seen in win7
Having read the post of pwilson, i guess that the link to qnap-helpdesk will not help me at all. But thx for providing it. Nobody knows, wether i was able to find it myself.
Up to now, I was convinced that a forum might help to solve problems, but sorry, I'm a QNAP-newbie.

@pwilson: sorry to disturb you up with this old thread.I wouldn't have postetd this in this really old thread, if there was'nt the last post (20150215) describing exactly the same problems i have and saying there might be a solution(Can you remember how you did this as I could not connect it to a QNAP 209 Pro II... ).
Thx for giving some background to printer handling in qnap. I now understand, why i don't get connection to my printer from win7. (I'm still convinced, forums give help)
When reading your post, i think that there might be a lot of parallels between Qnap-forum and D-Link forums concerning negligence of customers needs.

For me to resume: there seems to be no way or work-around to print with Hp Laserjet 2100 from QNAP. The only thing i can do, is to prevent my old D-Link Nas to go into retirement.
Any other suggestions are welcome.

greetings

My negative comments are directed squarely at QNAP. You posted to the correct thread for your issue. It is not your fault that QNAP started this thread while never having any intention of actually "reading" it. It is pointless for QNAP to solicit input from their customers, and then completely ignore all the valuable feedback that the community (their customers) provides.

I do not fault you for posting to this thread. I'm sorry if I left you with this impression. If QNAP would simply invest their programmers time in providing Basic server functions they could start actually cashing in on Enterprise customers. This feature isn't even "good enough" for Home users. Linux machines make great Print servers in Windows networks (when configured properly), but QNAP is so far behind in regards to this "feature" that they think they are in first place.
