Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
Hello Everyone,
I discovered recently this forum, which is very rich in terms of information provided !
Context:
- I have a TS470 Pro
- I've been using myqnapcloud for few months now and it works fine
- I own a domain, like "my-company.com" and I redirected "dl.my-company.com" to my QNAP IP adress
- I can now you "dl.my-company.com" instead of the DDNS provided by myqnapcloud, which, again, works fine
I have today the following problem :
- I now want to use Qsync for sharing large file with my clients
- Again, it works fine (you can generate a link, a validity date, a paswword, etc.) BUT the link created is "link.myqnapcloud.com"
Question: How can I get Qsync to understand that I own "dl.my-company.com" and hat I want him to generate Qsync sharing links with this domain name instead of myqnapcloud?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
Welcome to the QNAP NAS Community Forum!
The same or similar question was asked several times - afraid, no alternate DDNS or corporate/personal DNS support yet for Qsync, File Station sharing, or QNAP mobile apps yet.
Regards,
-Kurt.

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
It works for me.
Link "nas.mycompany.com" works as desired. But I have to emphasize, that i did not use "myqnapcloud" in a first place.
Best regards,
Berty

Many thanks for your replies !
When you say "it works for me", what do you mean?
I mean : when the link is generated by QSync, it directly uses "link.yourcompany.com" ? If so, how did you do?
I hope QSync will allow very soon the possibility to use our own domain name to generate sharing links !!!

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
Welcome Berty to the QNAP NAS Community Forum!
Well, certainly to reach the NAS from the Internet for the QTS 4 desktop, to establish an FTP or a VPN session for example ... not for what we're talking of before, the Qsync or File Station/Qfile share link creation. Yes, of course you can manually rewrite the URLs, but that's' not the idea.berty607 wrote:Link "nas.mycompany.com" works as desired. Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
I agree ! It works fine to access the Qnap and so on... but sadly, it is not working for file sharing, QSync and so on, except if you want to manually edit the generated link, which is not such a good idea
Hope they resolve this fast !

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
That's not correct either ... the applications permitting the creation of share links don't support custom fully qualified host names, it's not that the services have limitations to permit references from these domains or IP only.

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
I'm talking about file sharing. When I share file(s)/directories, link (witch I do not manually edit) looks like:
https://mynas.mycompany.com/...hash...
I noticed, when Qnap generates link, it uses FQDN address, that you are connecting to.
In order to have the same FQDN (from wherever) connecting to, my external DNS record points to translated (public) address, and internal DNS to original (private) address.

Berty

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
Of course not - the NAS does not know about your corporate or public FQDN to create the links - because there is no config option here (and in all appps supporting link creation) yet.berty607 wrote:I'm talking about file sharing. Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
I do agree with Schumaku here !
That was the purpose of my first question: how can the qnap know what is your corporate DNS !
In fact it cannot know since there is no settings for you to play with.
To sum it up : it works fine to access the qnap but not yet with qsync

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
Guys, please do not get to confident.
Have you tested it?
I've created different DNS records for the same Qnap server and the results were:
- When connecting to Qnap's File Station with "http://abc.defg.hi" and after that when you click "Share",Qnap generates link "http://abc.defg.hi/share.cgi?...."
- When connecting to Qnap's File Station with "http://abc" and after that when you click "Share",Qnap generates link "http://abc/share.cgi?...."
- When connecting to Qnap's File Station with "http://xyz" and after that when you click "Share",Qnap generates link "http://xyz/share.cgi?...."
- and so on...
Of course Qnap does not know your company's DNS structure, but it uses the address you are connecting to, to create public links!
I'm not sure how it does, maybe it uses host headers.
Bottom line is, If you (like me) do not like "http(s)://nas.myqnapcloud.com/share.cgi?..." you can use workaround and connect to the server with FQDN (that is also publicly accessible) and "customer" will receive more professional looking link; "http(s)://nas.yourcompany.com/share.cgi?..."

Berty

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
Thanks Berty.
However, my question was : "how to use https://www.my-company.com/sharedlinked with Qsync and not with File Station.
Why ? Because only admin can use sharing through File Station and I wan all my users to be able to share files, hence Qsync.
And it seems to me that Qsync can only generate links using myqnapcloud DNS...
Do we agree on that?
PS: by the way, does anyone knows if there is a good QKPG to "do the opposite", meaning : allowing my clients to drop large files on my corporate Qnap without me needing to create them user accounts? Thanks.
Regards

File Station oes permit Share Link creation starting from QTS 4.1.clure wrote:Why ? Because only admin can use sharing through File Station and I wan all my users to be able to share files, hence Qsync.
myQNAPcloud.com, DDNS, LAN IP, WAN IP ... just like File Station. In the Qsync "Share ... with other users" pop-up you find a second tab name [Links].clure wrote:And it seems to me that Qsync can only generate links using myqnapcloud DNS...

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
Inded you are right !
On my QNAP TS 419 PII (version 4.1), I can use File station with non administrator account to share links using my own DNS !!
But on my corporate QNAP (TS 470 Pro, version 4.0.5), I cannot do the same thing ! I just have to wait until they release 4.1 for the 7S 470 Pro
Thanks Schumaku.
Regarding my PS, do you know about a QKPG that would do the opposite thing, meaning : allowing my clients to drop large files on my QNAP without me needing to create them user accounts? Thanks.

Re: Share file with Qsync with our own domain name
Hm, it does not really support it yet - you need to rewrite or edit the URL generated.clure wrote:On my QNAP TS 419 PII (version 4.1), I can use File station with non administrator account to share links using my own DNS !!
Be aware QTS 4.1 is still in Beta. While features are fixed, changes and updates are still in process. If you desperately want, QTS 4.1 builds are available for your TS-470 Pro, too.clure wrote:But on my corporate QNAP (TS 470 Pro, version 4.0.5), I cannot do the same thing ! Afraid no ... most likely because that would be a risky thing. Are you aware of any cloud service offering such a feature? Something for QNAP to consider in the future, i.e. to permit a shared folder with some upload limits, no cloud read access, ...clure wrote:Regarding my PS, do you know about a QKPG that would do the opposite thing, meaning : allowing my clients to drop large files on my QNAP without me needing to create them user accounts?
