Cisco NSS-324 (firmware 1.5) to TS-459 PRO+ (firmware 3.6.1)

Post by SpencerBee »

Looking to upgrade my NSS-324 to the QNAP Firmware but wanted to make sure it was okay to upgrade directly from Cisco 1.5 Firmware to the latest QNAP 3.6.1 Build0302? Most of what I've found on blogs says you have to go to 3.5.0 build0815 first but that doesn't appear to be in the download archives anymore (https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2107220). Any help here is greatly appreciated!!

Have one NSS324 left to update ... I would use the manual update from the shell as shown here http://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Manually_Updating_Firmware

Worth a note: No more Mozy after the update, unless I'm wrong! So mind the gap...

No clue if this is sufficient - I'll try the direct update to 3.6.1 Build 0302 from http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=142&t=56407 :

Sad to see the Cisco NS324 go ... I prefer md5 over cksum for example, last time now I guess here.

Looks good I'd say 8)

For those keen on the old 3.5.0 build, here we go - derived the links using some guessing:

Not required - all you need is that Cisco NS32x v1.5 firmware before.

Enjoy!

So I am doing the conversion too, now and thanks for the warm welcome to QNAP. I knew all along it was QNAP, but now the OS will too!

So I have one slight issue, I don't have the admin password anymore? My account is an Admin for all intensive purposes but the only account that can access the device via SSH is labeled Admin, so I am open to suggestions over what to do here? I have thought about doing a factory reset, and may need to soon anyway but would prefer to get the data backed up before I Fup the Bup. if that makes sense?

Anyway should I just do the update through the GUI? Should I recover? Thoughts? Any help is appreciated! :DD

There is no "Admin" user on the NAS.

Try "admin" instead. "Admin" != "admin".

Check your NSS-324 Documentation for how to do a password reset on your NSS-324. We can't help much here until you have migrated to QNAP Firmware.

Hi,

Sorry for bringing up such an old topic but does anyone have Cisco's v1.5 firmware for NSS 324? The link on their website is broken and it doesn't seem like support is willing to provide it directly, unless you have some kind of contract

They're asking for a contract #, completely ignoring the fact that the NAS has reached an EOL and the latest firmware is 8 years old

right...they only do support for $$

not sure you will have any luck with QNAP, they might only support the hardware and framework, gui stuff might all be cisco handled (therefore qnap has no firmware copies)

I'm just wondering would a firmware recovery work on a Cisco compatible device? I'm not saying do it, but just curious.

Cisco NSS322 is QNAP TS-259Pro+
Cisco NSS324 is QNAP TS-459Pro+
Cisco NSS326 is QNAP TS-659Pro+

I think someone tried this not too long ago, and there was an error message during some hardware check, qnap must have some builtin hardware checks (can't find topic right now)

here is an older thread with some info .. worth a shot I gues
