TVS-682 Memory Upgrade

Post by mrzenith »

I'm looking to upgrade the memory of my new TVS-682-i3-8G to the total of 64GB.

The retail store near my place has
- Kingston ValueRAM KVR21N15D8/16 (16GB each)
- Kingston Hyper-X Fury Black HX421C14FB/16 (16GB each)

I'm going to purchase one of these items for 4 pieces.
Anyone ever using these RAM with the NAS before? Does it has any compatibility issue? or any suggestion, please.

Hi Welcome

if their not on the compatibility list with qnap (which is only updated irregularly) then you have to be careful you get exactly the same spec as the existing ram you have in your nas - voltage appears to be very important

Also make sure they are a matched pair or quad - as people have had trouble with "mixed" dimms even though they are the same version but not matched

personally i would go with the higher quality ram as a starting point

Search the forums you might find someone who has done it before

Symptoms of non compatibility are - does not boot, wont turn on, crashing, odd system performance etc

Try and get your ram on a "try first" option if you can find a friendly supplier

Good Luck
Tim

Hi Tim

Thank you so much for pointing about the matched pair which I almost forgot about it.
If the new RAM has higher Bus than the original pair, will this be another factor to be concerned about the compatibility?

my guess is that higher speed should not matter as the bios will pull it down to the required speed as it does in a pc - not 100% on that but 95% as not had a look at the bios on one of these nas

For those who looking for memory upgrade on TVS-682. The pre-installed memory on my unit is from Transcend.
I purchased new 2 pieces of 16 GB RAM from Transcend - TS2GLH64V1B DDR4 2133MHz U-DIMM (2R/1024Mx8/CL 15) and installed on my TVS-682 without any issue.
