Migrate from single disk to raid1?

Post by Pulquegc »

Hi.
I'm a newbie in the world of NAS.
My question is very simple: how about the possibility to migrate from single disk to a raid 1 double disk on ts231p?

Thanx

Hi and welcome to the forum. :)

Yes, this is possible. It's shown in the fine User Manual under 'Migrating RAID Configuration'.

Ok, thank you.
Another question: I'm going to loose all data in both disk or the first disk will be mirrored in the second after raid config?

No, your original drive will retain its data. The new drive will be erased. Then the data on the original drive will be duplicated onto the new drive.

But - as always - please ensure you have a backup of your data on external storage before attempting a major operation like RAID migration. Things do go wrong. ;)

Murphy's Law...but I will emerge victorious 8)
See you soon, my TS231P is expected to arrive from Amazon next Monday.
I have to see how to migrate my dear-old-WHS to the new qnap.

If this is a new NAS, then (if possible) start with 2 drives in RAID 1. That would be easier than creating a Single Drive, then migrating afterward. ;)

Also, please ensure you only use compatible drives in the NAS.

That's what I'm going to do. I bought two WD red 3tb. I've checked the compatibility on the website.

Do not put in drives from WHS or from any other system into the NAS if you want to keep the data. The NAS will reformat the drives and you will lose all your data.

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

NAS: TVS-882BR | F/W: 5.0.1.2346 | 40GB | 2 x 1TB M.2 SATA RAID 1 (System/VMs) | 3 x 1TB M.2 NMVe QM2-4P-384A RAID 5 (cache) | 5 x 14TB Exos HDD RAID 6 (Data) | 1 x Blu-ray
NAS: TVS-h674 | F/W: 5.0.1.2376 | 16GB | 3 x 18TB RAID 5
Apps: DNSMasq, PLEX, iDrive, QVPN, QLMS, MP3fs, HBS3, Entware, DLstation, VS, +

Yes. I was wandering if there is an app, in qnap store, for doing the dirty job of data migration from WHS to qnap.

Nope. Transfer over the network or attach externally.

Ok.
The MB on my WHS has a double ethernet port and supports ethernet teaming.
I've read the manual of 231n but i'm not sure if teaming is supported.

Won't provide any speed increase.
