No this is a user community and Qnap only very rarely take part here. Please contact Qnap helpdesk if you want their attention.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

Issue is still unsolved in QTS 4.3.3.0229 with a TS-231. Annoying

Afraid, not the same like the OP. The QNAP Surveillance Station recordings are making use of a proprietary format, and are not intended to be used off the Surveillance Station and QVR Client context. Any attempt to create thumbnails from these files will fail.

I'd suggest to remove the Recordings share (or whatever shared folder is used for Surveillance Station storage) from the Media Library.

Well, by creating AVI files at least the wrapper format used by QNAP isn't proprietary for real but of course the used codec is it indeed. Nevertheless even Windows Media Player plays the recorded files flawlessly.

Thanks for that hint. Made a corresponding exclusion and seems to work fine. No fault alarms until now.

However, at least in File Station thumbnails are being created without any errors anyway.

Thumbnail failed with mp4 and .jpg files in my Media library (fotos and movies)... nothing about surveillance property files or extensions, only coincidence.
Very annoying.

I've no idea whether this is relevant or not, but I've been scratching my head over a few failed thumbnail generations recently on a load of video file, which may coincide with the firmware update, and I came across this thread.

I'm streaming to a PS3 via the Twonky Media Server and have found that if I move the files to a different directory the thumbnails seem to show up fine, but move them back again and the thumbnails disappear again. I thought it might be something to do with the length of the file path, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Also, the thumbnails seem to show up fine as they are on another DLNA media server that comes up on the PS3.

This post may make no sense at all - I'm not very technical at this sort of thing, but it just seemed really weird and may be related.
