SMB2 and SMB3

Post by SNCIT »

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if someone knows if it is possible on both the QNAP TS439 Pro II+ and QNAP TS 859 Pro+ NAS's that SMB2 and SMB3 is supported? If so is there an easy way to enable this via the GUI? The reason is we are going to disable SMB1 on all windows 7 and windows 10 client desktop machines due to the SMB1 vulnerability and as recommended by Microsoft (see link). I have applied the registry changes via GP and they work on my 2 test machines but i noticed once they applied i couldn't access my 2 NAS's anymore as they use SMB1 by default.

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/sta ... up-policy/

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
Massimo

via ssh type "smb2status"

e.g.

Code: Select all

smbd (samba daemon) Version 3.6.25
smbd (samba daemon) is running.
max protocol SMB 1.0 enabled.
to change to 2.1 type "smb21enable"
e.g.

Code: Select all

Shutting down SMB services: smbd nmbd.
Shutting down winbindd services: winbindd.
max protocol SMB 2.1 ... enabled.
locks path was set to /share/HDA_DATA/.locks
Shutting down winbindd services: winbindd.
Starting winbindd services:Starting SMB services:.

smbd (samba daemon) Version 3.6.25
smbd (samba daemon) is running.
max protocol SMB 2.1 enabled
to revert should you need to type "smb2disable"

there is a "smb3enable" but IIRC cat1 nas's do not support this - cant check as mine are retired
