log being too verbose

Post by graemev »

Just a single point. I suspect this message is simply too common to warrant 1: being a warning and 2: getting one for every occurrence

Type Date Time Users Source IP Computer name Content
Warning 2017/09/27 03:55:07 System 127.0.0.1 localhost [Media Library] Thumbnail generation failed (oversize): /share/MD0_DATA/Usb/2015/20150804/IMGP2614 - IMGP2630-sharp.jpg

I had to power cycle my NAS and I wanted to check the logs for the filesystem check (which is an info message) but I had to wade though many hundreds of these warning messages, which are errors abut a thumbnail I've probably never even seen.

it is probably trying to create a thumbnail from a corrupt image and thus warning you about the thumbnail creation.

either delete the offending image or fix the corruption.

Just got home to find 45 emails about these "thumbnails" . They are not corrupt , they are just rather large. The example above is 20134 X 5528 (111 MP) [ I have on printed over several metres on my wall]
The emails make these even more annoying. I'll get tagged as a spammer by ISP at this rate.

maybe they cannot be created due to thumbnail needing to use more memory perhaps.

best submit a ticket with QNAP to see what they can suggest/fix

Perhaps the full email message makes it clearer:

Server Name: qnap412u
IP Address: 10.116.0.251
Date/Time: 2017/09/26 09:50:27
Level: Warning

[Media Library] Thumbnail generation failed (oversize): /share/MD0_DATA/Multimedia/usa2015/IMGP2578 - IMGP2594.tif.gimped.jpg

The word "oversize" is the clue ... I think it's just a fixed limit.

I raised a ticket. I can't actually view my own ticket as I seem to need a login to do that (which I didn't need to raise it? ??)

You can check the status of or update this ticket online at: https://helpdesk.qnap.com/index.php?/Ti ... -487-27127
