thanks for the info. I went back on the QNAP site, and found it. They usually show a picture of the main unit with the expanders, but not this time.
So I was lazy, and did not read the doc carefully enough.
While I am very anxious to see the TS-1277, my applications always need a 10G card and the 12G SAS expander card. I am not seeing a price difference between this
and the TVS-1282T or TS-1685 (which are the boxes I most commonly install). I fully understand that with QTS 4.3.4 you can put in a GPU card (like an AMD Radeon or NVidia GTX),
but you can certainly do this on a TS-1685 with the larger power supply (550 Watt). So I am still questioning the advantage of the Ryzen vs. the Intel and why I would buy this box
instead of the 1282 or 1685.

Totally understand the point you are making.. I was also looking at the tvs-1282 i7 and the 1685 6 core model, but decided to wait on purchasing the 1277.. The 1277 also comes with a 550 watt power supply but you would have to add a 10gb card, but on the other hand you get an additional 2 cores with a higher clock frequency over the top end option of the 1685 which has 6 core @ 2.2ghz.. It all depends on your needs and what you will be using the boxes for I guess...
