greeting
I would like to create an encrypted folder on my NAS (TS-253B) and be able to access it from outside, and be able to access the files by typing a password. Is this possible ?
Thank you.

Re: Encrypted Folder
define "outside"
encrypting is not your main issue here..it's exposing your nas is...
a vpn is advised for outside access

Re: Encrypted Folder
When I say "outside" it is outside my home, through the Internet.
I'm not very comfortable with security issues, I thought that setting up the NAS so that it wouldn't allow any access other than me would be enough for my files to be protected. Can you direct me to a dedicated security tutorial for my NAS?

Re: Encrypted Folder
yes..you can encrypt a folder on the nas (see manual)
that does not help you to share it via the web though...it would prevent access to that folder if the physical unit or drives are stolen

Re: Encrypted Folder
QTS does offer an encrypted folder feature.
However, to unlock (decrypt) a folder, you need to login to the QTS web UI. A shared folder can't be unlocked with some sort of remote password prompt at the time you attempt access to your share (I think this is what you're asking about).
Suggest you use a VPN to remote access your LAN, and ensure this shared folder is only accessible by you by setting the correct share folder access permissions. This keeps others on the LAN from accessing this share, and means you won't need to use NAS folder encryption.
