Two Raid 1 Set Up in 4 Bay NAS

Post by sye2eye »

Hi,
I currently have 2 6Tb HDDs set up as RAID 1 in a 4 bay TS-453 Pro. I wondered if I can add another 2 (different sized) HDDs in the remaining bays and create another separate RAID 1 volume?
Thanks in advance

just add the two drives and create a new RAID1 group in storage manager

Dumb question... why RAID1s? You'd be better off running a single RAID5. More data storage. Easier to manage.

because of the different sizes? (than the original drives)

If they are both 6TB, or larger, then the point is moot. If not, I would wait until you can get 6TB drives. Putting in two RAID1s will, IMHO, back you into a corner.

Thanks for the advice. I had 2 spare 2Tb drives and 2 spare slots in the NAS which I've now set up as a separate RAID1 and is working fine. Not ideal I know, and once funds allow I'll look at setting it up differently.
Thanks again
