Backup external drive unclear terminlogy: Terminated

Post by guus@itendo.nl »

Hello,

We have been using QNAP NAS's for many years and recently bought some new ones and upgraded.
Some of the words used to show Status of backup jobs and status of logs is really unclear and leads to misinterpretation.

Backup jobs that run and complete now show Status: Terminated.

I think a better word here is Finished.

Also a log file now might look something like:
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] Job [test joyce] started.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] Synchronize files between a local folder and an external drive.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] The number of folder pairs = 1.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] Pair1 = [Joyce, USBDisk1/Joyce].
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] Schedule type: Manually.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] The deleting extra files option is enabled.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] The checking data content option is enabled.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] The detecting sparse files option is enabled.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] The extended attributes option is disabled.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] Symblic link files are excluded.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] The detail log is enabled with the maximum size 10 MB.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] Maximum retry times: 3; Retry interval in seconds: 60; Connection timeout in seconds: 120; Current retry number: 0.
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] Destination does not support changing file mode!
[2018/10/02 20:56:49] Destination does not support changing file owner!

But it doesn't include any line / info telling the user that the job completed or finished.

I hope you can take my suggestions and improve these hind sights.
Sincerely,
Gus Knoops

Hi Gus and welcome to the forum. :)

This is only a community forum, so no-one here can make these changes. Please create a support ticket with QNAP and make your suggestions to them.

Good luck!

Solution seemed to be to download QNAP’s Hybrid Back Sync app and use it instead. Without changing a thing on my newly bought and setup TS-431X, the newer app corrected notified ‘finished’ at the end of each backup job. The interface is just about identical for the external drive backup section, it’s clearly this is a newer set of code to the older Backup Station. So just use this new app instead. In the GUI, this app made the old Backup Station disappear.

Gus,
What version of QTS are you running? I've been using Back Up Station on my 219PII for 6 yrs. I don't have Hybrid Sync installed.. "Finished" is definitely there.

What's really interesting that I just noted is, the 'Terminated' response can be worked around using the External Backup interface of Hybrid Backup Sync app. Even with it installed, if I use Qmanager app on my iPhone to initiate the backup, that 'Terminated' message comes back. This same message is also reflected in the HBS if one views the progress in it.
