Noob here: media server - allow downloads, sharing - Plex or something else

Post by greensquirrel »

I believe (correct me if wrong) that using Plex, I can download entire Mp3s and M4s to my android so I can watch / listen offline, eg on a Plane etc
My understanding is my wife can only stream using shared access.

Is there a way to allow my wife to download this content onto her iphone?
I'm guessing I could get her a Plex account too, but that just sounds crazy.

Perhaps she can use my account - is this bad?

Is there another media server alternative to Plex that allows this?

Thanks

Why is it a problem just to create a Plex account for this?

Incorrect - when you setup your users for a library (wife's account) you go in and edit the settings for her account and you have the option to enable Sync (for offline viewing), access to certain libraries, content restrictions, etc.

No. That's why I never mentioned Plex Passes.

Ah I see; but I read here this was not the case, that only the owner of the media was permitted to download.

Read my first post again. Create one Plex account per user.

You don't need any Plex Passes and I use this method fine having never owned one. Sometimes it's easier to just follow the advice you're given word for word.
