QVHelper no longer available for download

Post by korn3l »

Hi guys,

I want to install QVHelper, but I can't find a link to get it.

When I click download in VideoStation, it sends me to https://www.qnap.com/go/utilities?utility=QVHelper , but it's not there.

I'm trying to understand what's happening here. Is it no longer supported ? Where can I find a link ?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It looks like QNAP have only recently removed all trace of QVHelper from their websites. Google's cache shows it existed 3 weeks ago, but now - nothing. This could mean QNAP have discontinued support for this application. :'

Suggest you create a support ticket and ask QNAP about this.

And looks like QVhelper is no longer supported for firmware 4.3.6.0895 (running on TS-453 PRO) either.
Got to find a new way to stream to my macbook

VLC and QVHelper was a perfect combo to launch movies directly from filestation without transcoding and VPN connection.
What's the solution now ? there's a work around ?

From my point of view, now I'm using VPN, works well, it's a little bit more complicated but sometime I can't use this kind of solution ...

Raised it with QNAP support who came back with a disgraceful repsonse.

To summarise, their response:

1) QVHelper is no longer supported as HD station has more features which were raised by users and is a "more flexible" application as compared to QVHelper.

2) It was apparently advertised in app center that it was being removed. :'

3) HD station has been pushed for all users to use the application for multimedia files.

The VLC streaming functionality was removed, there are no plans to bring it back.

There are no plans to support DTS/Dolby audio streams.

When i asked for a formal complaint to be logged. No response.

QNAP "support" at its finest....

So what about those of us that view files on the NAS via AFP ?
I presume we can still use VLC ?

video station is a webfrontend

so the removal of that web helper program has no effect on SMB/AFP/NFS ... as they are assigned to programs via your file explorer (whatever that is named in your OS that you use)

I have found "QNAPQVHelper-1.1.0.18025.dmg" on my laptop that I downloaded a while back . .
Do you want it ?

I also contacted QNAP supp to roll back Video Station & got "VideoStationPro_5.1.6_20190325_all.zip". . But it doesn't seem to have the third party player options in it. .

People spend a lot of time and money settings these NASs up.

I own several QNAPs for home use and have purchased rack units for all of the sites in the division that I oversee at work (I work in the aerospace industry as an IT director) Removing functionality like that isnt appreciated and makes me sort of nervous; we use the "Open in VLC" function as part of processes that have saved us a lot of time.

Videostation so far DOES NOT provide the same functionality nor ease of use.

QNAP makes a fantastic product, can someone from QNAP please own this decision and speak to it?

I opened a ticket & made it very clear that removing functionality in this manor is extremely bad form, especially for their professional users who have established work flows that have now been ruined by this seemingly pointless removal of functionality.

Did the exact same thing. Unfortunately QNAP do not have a formal complaints process to raise this, and their support team don't care as it's not a support query.

Afaik there isn't but i'm hoping someone can correct me here.....are there any 3rd party players or streaming tools in the QNAP EU store that can be used as a substitute?
