SCSI-3 Persistent Reservations Support on TS-853S Pro

Post by VikFreeze »

Hi,

im using a TS-853S Pro for a Hyper V Cluster, when running cluster validation checks the Storage Spaces Persistent Reservation section returns:
Test Disk 0 does not support SCSI-3 Persistent Reservations commands needed by clustered storage pools that use the Storage Spaces subsystem. Some storage devices require specific firmware versions or settings to function properly with failover clusters. Contact your storage administrator or storage vendor for help with configuring the storage to function properly with failover clusters that use Storage Spaces.

From what i undestand this model supports SCSI-3 Persistent Reservations but i cant find any instructions or settings on how to get this working :(

What Windows version?

The Windows HCL does not make clear if Hyper-V Cluster is supported (even Netapps don't mention clustering).

That box is approved for 2012 R2 64:
iSCSI Interface
Offloaded Data Transfer (ODX)
Thin Provisioning (TP)

I would raise a ticket, is shown on Qnap's list.

But I would be surprised if that lower end model supports persistent reservation.

Cluster is made up of 2 Windows Server 2019 Standard nodes
I switched from Hyper V Server as there seem to be some bugs with remote desktop on core servers but i still get the same report
The "Validate SCSI-3 Persistent Reservation" section reads: Test Disk 0 supports Persistent Reservation.
But "Validate Storage Spaces Persistent Reservation" section reads: Test Disk 0 does not support SCSI-3 Persistent Reservations commands needed by clustered storage pools that use the Storage Spaces subsystem.

Now im not sure if Storage Spaces Persistent Reservation is actually crucial or not as it only shows up as a warning and not a fail
