Re: Plex server not powerful enough
not much info to go with
are you transcoding ? do you have a plexpass(for hardware assisted transcoding support)?
what are the codecs of the files in question ?
etc.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/201774 ... my-server/
basically prior to NAS purchase, you refer to the CPU requirements for what transcoding for what video resolution and bit rate, then purchase one that can handle the task. if you simply just buy and later expect it to transcode stuff it may not be able to handle, you won't have a nice time
the ones that mention hardware accelerated transcoding is referring to intel quick sync, which requires a plex pass.
there is also nvidia transcoding via models that support installing a graphics card, but there's not been much mentioned how well that performs.
i use a TS-877 with a ryzen cpu, it has a high enough passmark for transcoding 1080p high bit rate videos just fine.

Re: Plex server not powerful enough
anyway i just checked for the ts-451+. based on the chart 1080p transcode can work but you may have issues with high bit rate.
but seems if you use the hardware accelerated quicksync using a plex pass, that may be able to handle 1080p just fine (supposedly)

Re: Plex server not powerful enough
Please check the Plex forums (Nvidia Shield / Android TV Client) for this issue. There are a couple known issues related to the Plex client for Nvidia Shield and poorly encoded files.
Now there are a couple things such as subtitles (certain formats/methods) that will force the PMS Server to transcode when the Nvidia Shield would normally be able to direct play them.
Again the Plex forums in the Nvidia Shield Client section and QNAP server section are the best areas to track down the potential cause of your particular issue.

I had the same problem, similar setup.
Noticed that having auto-subs enabled was causing it. So start the movie without subs, then enable them manually and all played ok.
Just noticed today that there was a software update for my NAS, so did that. Then it flagged a PLex update, so did that also. Now all ok again. Auto-Subs ok now.

Re: Plex server not powerful enough
Thought the update fixed it, but I must have just struck lucky with a few movies.
It's still the same as described in my post directly above.
Any fix for this? Is this most likely a plex problem?
