so the code looks like below
Save the file and restart SMB with /etc/init.d/smb.sh restart

Code: Select all

        …
	# "map to guest" reset. Dependes on "restrict anonymous".
	restrict_anonymous=`/sbin/getcfg global "restrict anonymous" -d "NOT_FOUND" -f ${CONFIG}`
	if [ "x${restrict_anonymous}" == "x2" ]; then
	# restrict anonymous level 2.
		/sbin/setcfg global "map to guest" "Never"    -f ${CONFIG}
		/sbin/setcfg global "invalid users" "guest" -f ${CONFIG}
	else
		/sbin/setcfg global "map to guest" "Bad User" -f ${CONFIG}
		/sbin/setcfg global "invalid users" "" -f ${CONFIG}
	fi
	}
Do I read that correctly, that this patch now reflects the settings in the web interface gui, instead of the first "quick'n'dirty" thing which was disabling the "guest = invalid" entry what ever else has been configerd via web gui ?

I for one, not wanting to edit files manually, and seeing that downgrading has no effect, the only option is to install a new firmware.
It is broken in the same way as 4.3.6.0979

Yes it should do but I cannot confirm 100% so use at your own risk.
Honestly if you are just fixing the guest account issue then "yes" it will fix it and because no one has reported that 4.3.6.0979 is failing with the other levels of "Restrict anonymous users from accessing SMB shared folders" they should also work correctly too.

Below is a snippet of my ongoing battle with the QNAP Help Desk. This is after them asking the nth time for more logs.
They just won't pass the information in this FORUM higher up the food chain. I have played nicely before but now I'm at the end of my wick!
Hi there,

The logs will tell you nothing that you haven’t already seen from the logs that I and other people on the Forum have supplied to QNAP.

The problem is in the way the Code of the file smb.sh was rewritten in 4.3.6.0979.

I have pointed QNAP to the FORUM where this was discussed and in that FORUM provided a solution for your customers (who have still not received a solution from QNAP)
A link was provided previously and here is a link to the exact solution and what is wrong with the code viewtopic.php?f=185&t=149124&start=30#p719369
You need to escalate this to someone who is a “Programmer” of the firmware. I’m sure once they understand the problem and see how the code was rewritten they can fix it quickly.

Kind regards,
Bruce.

I was about to post new topic when I saw this one. I am not updating firmware until after at least a month passes and I check this forum first from now on. This is unacceptable.

The only way you are going to get QNAP's attention is to open a ticket. QNAP does not participte in the forums.

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

in last year. QNAP always released firmware update by weekly or bi-weekly.
...in normal case...
but. I think this is emergency case... QNAP should release new firmware for fix it.

I use 2 TS-1263 model 80T and 1 TS-1253 80T ... for 300 employee..
and, I can stand anymore....

I will sue... my vendor.

QNAP does not and has not released firmware on a weekly or biweekly basis.

There is a temporary solution. Implement it to solve your issue.

Open a ticket with QNAP.

Hello,

Same issue on my TS-1079 Pro and the same firmware, the above change to smb.sh fixed it for me.

I did raise a support call and mention this forum post too, been told to try and disable guest and reboot which didnt help.

Still playing the waiting game with Support, sent the logs last Thursday and was told it's been escalated to their 2nd Line Support Team and to await an update... No update so have just chased! I suggest anyone with the issue ensures they have a support case logged/open so at least it flags the impact and hopefully makes them resolve sooner rather than later! Worked around the issue currently to get by...
