TV can see and access a hidden shared folder it shouldn't

Post by MilanMilosevic »

My Samsung TV can access a hidden shared folder "Music Backup" and play music from there although it is not supposed to.
The TV connects to the NAS via DLNA and Media Streaming Add-On as guest, so it should see only two shared folders, "Video" and "Music". When I select NAS as the source on TV and then proceed with selecting Music and Folder, it doesn't show "Music" (shared and visible media folder with read-only rights for guests) but "Music Backup" (containing music but not set as media or visible folder), which is set in the following way:
- static volume
- settings > shared folders > hidden: yes
- settings > shared folders > media folder: unchecked
- settings > shared folders > hide network drive: checked
- settings > shared folders > shared folder permissions > guest access rights: deny access
In settings > multimedia management > media folder the "Music Backup" folder does not appear as a media folder.

I don't experience this on other devices which connect to NAS at home. I also don't experience this with "Video" and "Video Backup" folders which are set in the identical manner as "Music" and "Music Backup".

Why is QNAP allowing the TV to see and access a prohibited folder and how to solve this? Thanks in advance.

Hardware and software descriptions:
TV: Samsung MU6100
NAS: QNAP TS-431P2, QTS 4.3.4.0734, Media Streaming Add-On v.430.1.8.5

the hiding of smb shares does not affect dlna service

it should however only serve folders that are in scope

update to the latest firmware and media streaming addon and report back

Dolbyman thanks for your response. I don't use SMB, only AFP is active.
I would like to avoid updating to latest firmware and apps because I have found reliability and stability issues with later versions. I will do that if my problem is a documented bug which will be fixed by updating. Otherwise I wish to stay away from defaulting to latest versions to solve bugs.

SOLVED by reinstalling the operating system. Apparently there was a corruption of system, probably due to several power cut-offs in the area over the past weeks.
Thanks again.
