Long shutdown time
This is on TS-420 - used to take 5-10 minutes now 1 hour 20 mins:
Information 2019/07/29 23:52:03 System 127.0.0.1 localhost System was shut down on Mon Jul 29 23:52:02 NZST 2019.
Information 2019/07/29 22:32:48 admin 192.168.1.80 --- [Power Management] System will be shutdown now.
I haven't added any new software other than the updates to hybrid sync and not much else running on it - used maninly to store media files.
Any ideas on how to track down the problem?
John

Re: Long shutdown time
The Seagate drive models (DM) currently shown in your signature panel are known to be problematic in QNAP NAS. You’ll need to replace them.

Re: Long shutdown time
Thanks but I've been using them for several years without problem with the device running 13 hours a day. When I bought the NAS they were on the approved list - I'm aware they are not popular with some members of this forum but hard to see how they will be causing the slow shutdown?
Edit - just checked these drives are still on the compatibility list.
I should add that # shutdown now gives the same result.

Re: Long shutdown time
You might experiment by manually stopping each installed QPKG via your App Center, then performing a shutdown. Any change?

Re: Long shutdown time
Nice one - the culprit must be Hybrid backup sync, the only app I had running as after stopping it the system shutdown quickly. I'll uninstall and reinstall and hope this fixes it.

Re: Long shutdown time
was HBS running a backup job when you try to shut down perhaps? is the shutdown done at a specific time each day and for what reason? NAS's are designed to run 24/7. you could also have it perform hibernation instead of a full shutdown.

Re: Long shutdown time
HBS wasn't doing a backup job at at the time and uninstaling/reinstalling did not help. The NAS shuts down at 11:30 PM each night as I do not need it overnight so thought I'd save the power. Can this device hybernate? I've never seen that option.

Re: Long shutdown time
Tried again - without HBS, three minute shutdows. With HBS, no jobs running or even setup, 1 hr 20 minutes shutdown.
Time to open support ticket or any other ideas?

Re: Long shutdown time
are you running HBS v2.x or v3.x ?
v3 is still beta but works well here. also supports QuDedup. not sure if your NAS is supported in HBS3 however.

v3 not available for the TS-420 - I'm on v2.19. I've submitted a support ticket. Thanks for your help.

Re: Long shutdown time
Just to follow up on this QNAP logged in a few times but seemingly couldn't solve the problem and it has been passed on to their developers.
If anyone else has this problem a quick way to shutdown is:
cd /share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/HybridBackup (on my TS-420 RAID 5 system)
cd /share/HDA_DATA/.qpkg/HybridBackup (on my TS-212 two single disk system)
./backupstation.sh stop
poweroff

Re: Long shutdown time
That QPKG should have an entry in [/etc/init.d] which would give you a model-agnostic method to stop it.
I don't have access to HBS, but you might try this:
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/backupstation.sh stop
