[SOLVED] Still unable to access NAS as guest following firmware update to v4.3.4.1000
On my TS-469 Pro I decided to update the firmware to version: 4.3.4.1000 today (previous firmware was from March 2018).
After the update, I'm no longer able to access the NAS from any of my Windows clients machines without a prompt to enter network credentials.
The NAS is setup as a stand-alone workgroup server (no domain) on my personal network.
Previously, I was able to click the name of the NAS under the network heading in File Explorer and access the shares without issue (without the need to authenticate).
Some client username are synchronized with NAS, but during scheduled backup task of SQL server access to the destination is done anonymously and I cannot force any credentials.
Here are some things I've tried:
- Confirmed that "Allow all connections" is enabled under Security
- Checked the share permissions and "Guest Access Right" is set to Full access.
- Tried giving RW access to the everyone group.
- Checked SMB level. Highest level is 3 and lowest level is 1 currently
- Confirmed that I don't have any stored usernames/passwords for the NAS in Windows credential manager.
- Advanced Folder Permissions and Windows ACL Support are both disabled.
- Downgraded to firmware 4.3.4.0899
In the log I see "Login Fail" from User MACHINENAME$ (the netbios name of client)
In Settings --> Services --> Win/Mac/NFS --> Advanced Settings I haven't any parameter for anonymous SAMBA access
Please help me, Thanks
UPDATE: Problem solved with the new Update 4.3.4.1029 (20190730)
Release note:
- After evaluating both security risks and user needs, QNAP has decided to retain support for allowing guest users to view and access shared folders to facilitate file sharing. However, to ensure your system security, QNAP recommends updating QTS to the latest version to benefit from new features and security updates.

In other posts I read that the problem has been solved, but we only talk about version 4.3.6.xxxx and not 4.3.4.xxxx
For version 4.3.4.xxxx nobody has solutions or FW following the .1000?

Scheduled automatic backup jobs are performed by the system user and not by a specific Windows user

I also tried to map the network path to a unit forcing credentials but the problem is not solved

Everything worked perfectly before the firmware update, no Windows updates were made and there are no automatic updates (Windows Server)

It does not apply to the most commonly used versions of Windows.
As stated by Microsoft it only applies as per below -
Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education no longer allow a user to connect to a remote share by using guest credentials by default, even if the remote server requests guest credentials.
Windows Server 2016 Datacenter and Standard edition no longer allow a user to connect to a remote share by using guest credentials by default, even if the remote server requests guest credentials.
Windows 10 Home and Professional editions are unchanged from their previous default behavior.

Can you Post your smb.conf located in /etc and smb.sh located in /etc/init.d
I'll have a look it see if it is related to the other issue. (i.e 4.3.6.0979)
Regards,
Bruce.
