SMBv1

Post by unknown2u »

I have a QNAP TS 251+ and have not updated in a while and cannot seem to find if any of the latest updates have removed SMBv1 from the NAS. I use Sonos and have my music on the NAS but unfortunately Sonos only uses SMBv1. Have the recent updates for the NAS removed support for SMBv1?

not sure what qts ur 251+ uses... u didn't say.

but in latest 4.4.0, 4.4.1 and 4.3.6 u can set minimum and maximum smb.

smb 2.1 minimum with max smb 3.... this way smb 2.1 is bare minimum to connect. But smb 1 is totally unallowed for your QNAP.

Perhaps stop supporting Sonos, and get something that is more secure. Just because they are lazy with security doesn't mean you should stoop to their lv.

anyway stanley_4 in the forum thread i linked, posted a good solution, which requires a rasberry pi device.

Yes, sorry I forgot to post my version. I am on version 4.3.6.0805 and have the option for highest and lowest SMB versions. I am hesitant to update even to the latest 4.3.6.0993 build. It should not be this way and Sonos needs to get off its ** and actually support the latest protocols. It is all about streaming for the Internet these days and companies do not seem to care about local access to your own files.
