Post by spikemixture »

I had a pop up today saying someting like 10% off Ryzen Models from Qnap.
I paid little attention and flicked it.

Now I am interested in that sort of deal and can find no reference to it anywhere.

Was I dreaming ?

maybe it was at a nas sales website?..normaly qnap does not advertise any sales or pricing on their regular website

not saying that they don't run sales specials and incentives with certain retailers

I got even an Email from Qnap about this. In Dutch.
Yet, All the webshops around here still have the same price.
I really wondered about the timeframe.
Friendly Greetings,

So it's a US only offer?
mmmmm

I am in the Philippines and have put it on my computer shop and their supplier. Will see what I get.

Interestingly I had asked for prices on 4 of the ryzen boxes a week ago.
Quoted from $200-450 more than Amazon! So 20% off might get me to US prices !

Does anyone else think this 20% off is due to new Ryzen models coming soon!

The reason given "to welcome the release of QTS 4.4.1 " - come on Mr Qnap!

I personally don't mind if that is the reason although and us would be nice..

This was looking very interesting until I saw the price of the units. The TVS-872XT is still much cheaper than the TS-877 even after the discount and then you still have to factor in a 10G card not to mention a video card if you want to do some serious transcoding.

Am I missing something here?

They are both good boxes and have pro's and cons.

First off the base TS-877 with the Ryzen 5 1600 is about 30% faster CPU wise than the i5 in the TVS-872xt (based on passmarks) so for VM/Docker/etc. usage it will scale better.
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/In ... 3260vs2984 .

And since the i5 is the fastest model in the x72xt line, the Ryzen 7 1700 version x77 are even bigger in their CPU advantage. I ran for quite a while my TS-877 box w/o using HW Transcoding for Plex and the CPU is beefy enough to handle Transcoding w/o it (although now that Plex supports NVidia based transcoding).

The TS-x77 family expands to 64GB of memory vs. 32GB in the TVS-x82xt family. It also has 1 more PCIe slot (although a 10Gb card would take that).

Again they are both good boxes, and have pro's/con's (depending on use case) over the other.

I really doubt you'll see a TS-x77 model with a Zen 2 3600 or 3700 soon, the QNAP site still hasn't updated the specs about them having the 2nd Gen Ryzens.
