Windows Server 2019 Domain access Shares

Post by jcslim »

Hi

I have a new Windows Server 2019 domain.

The server can see both of my NAS's in Network but cannot access them.

The error is
Windows cannot access \\NAS
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there may be a problem with your network. Try to identify and resolve network problems, click diagnose

We get this from all of our workstations.

The only way around it so far has been to switch one of the computers from Domain type network to Private. Access then comes back. I'm assuming I'm missing something pretty obvious but any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

J

can you access a NAS share?

\\NAS\sharename ?

what share permissions do you have on the NAS? is the NAS joined to the domain?

Hi Toxic

The Nas is not part of the domain I've never added it and its always worked fine.

I can see in Network the network PCs and the NAS (NAS) when I double click on it it won't show any of the shares.

The shares are set currently to guest full access until I can get this to work

Thanks

what firmware version/build number are the NAS's on?

I know there are issues with 4.3.6.1040 and user should downgraded to 4.3.6.0993 if you are on that version?

Hi Toxic

I'm running version 4.3.6.1040

Do I assume it is as easy to downgrade as to goto the below link and download the firmware and install it?

https://www.qnap.com/en/download?model= ... y=firmware

Thanks again

yes fairly easy. just upload the image to the firmware update page in the control panel.

I usually also do a reboot before any firmware update/downgrade. also I think you also have to extract the image from the zip file then upload it.

you can also manually do it using the SSH method if you want to see the update procedure in a SSH window.

https://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Manually_Updating_Firmware

I usually just download the zip file using wget command (in /share/Public folder), then unzip the image and run the manual procedure.
