SSL certificate from myQNAPcloud app vs myQNAPcloud site

Post by pbb72 »

I am really confused here.

The name "myQNAPcloud" is used for two (quite different) products: a QTS app (accessible from the main menu) and a website (https://www.myqnapcloud.com/). The contents of these two is quite different, but they both have a section called "SSL Certificate". If I use the app, then under SSL Certificate I am offered a free Let's Encrypt certificate, but if I use the website, I am offered a "QNAP Device" certificate that I have to pay $45 for.

WHY??? Why are they making things so needlessly confusing? Can anybody tell me if, apart from the price, there is any difference between these two certificates? Maybe Let's Encrypt doesn't work for all QNAP devices? But then why not offer a choice between both on the myQNAPcloud website? Can anybody tell me more? I have not been able to find any information on this confusing situation...

Thanks for any enlightenment! :-)
