VLC replacement

Post by P4444 »

When I go away for work I want to be able to play shows from my qnap by clicking on them from file station. The problem I'm having is that it won't play half of the files I try. It suggests VLC player but as I'm sure you know you need QV helper which is no longer available. Does anyone know a better way for play the show on a laptop away from home?. Thanks

Sorry TS-253Be, so it does support plex. Is playing it off the network a paid feature?

Thank you. Why do I need to use a VPN?

qnap had it's last ransomware attack wave just a couple of days ago ... any exposed service is a potential risk

so only connecting via vpn (preferably established via firewall/router..optional via nas) eliminates the attack vectors towards your nas from outside

OK thanks. I also made the changes they recommend for security, although I can Fong the security counselor app when I search. Also with the network access protection how long do you block IPs for?

I don't block any IP's as I don;t expose my NAS .. if you do not expose your NAS, no need to block IP's

By expose you mean accessing outside of my home network without a VPN?

Thank you. I assume if I'm using the qfile app with out a VPN to manage my downloads at work this is exposing my qnap.

that is also correct, exposing qfile (effectively QTS frontend) is extremely dangerous
