I wanted to restart from scratch
I've installed a new hdd and setup the nas as new.
I want now to add the old disk and copy over all files to the new drive
When adding a pool and a volume, qnap ask to format the drive.
I read somewhere add without format can be done vial shell/cli but can't find any info
TS-253 Pro dual slot, new disk is now system drive in bay 1
old system drive with data in it is now in bay 2
Attach existing qnap disk without formatting

Re: Attach existing qnap disk without formatting
that's exactly why you need external backups (and for other disasters)
see if you can recreate the old shares (under new names) and point them to the old volume (if it is mounted)
also a NAS doesn't need spontaneous reinstall .. any reason for the reinstall ? malware ?

Re: Attach existing qnap disk without formatting
Old disk is still bootable but kept crashing regularly (at least every week) that's why I wanted to start fresh,
I need to copy over to the new disk, without having to have a third disk/device to perform the migration.

QNAP support suggest to mount the hdd on an another PC and move it from there, I'll try soon and let you know.

Re: Attach existing qnap disk without formatting
currently recovering with r-linux (although the disk and partition was perfectly fine)
4TB will probably take a week
