Help setting up webserver with static IP

Post by ozstar »

HI,

I have tried the forum tutorials and others but somehow cannot follow them. They show different panels and talk of different things and their doesn't seem to be an up to date instruction to setup a webserver with a static IP not a DDNS.

Can get some help please?

For a start I have the domain names pointing to a ISP shared hosting site they are operating well.

I want to try and place them on our NAS and take them off that shared server.

The domain names of the sites we want to move are with TPP and at the moment they have the ns1,ns2 nameservers.com.au pointing to the shared hosting.
the no
I am not sure what to replace these ns1,ns2 names with.

Is it the static IP of the our PC and NAS box? The local IP is 192.168.20.13 and the static IP from whatmyip is 202.155.xxx.xxx

I have asked TPP support and as they were lost, they sent it to Senior Staff 24 hours ago and I haven't heard back.

Once I get this settled I will then ask on to the next step if that is okay.

I hope so!

I do this all the time for our clients through our WHM and Cpanel however it's new for the local NAS server. I also know my way around Mysql and phpMyAdmin but its the local ports numbers that have got me.

Thank you

As I do need to get this thing up and running ASAP, seeing I can't get any help so far here so I can do it, is there a service that can connect to my Qnap and set up a webserver for me.

use some other device..the qnap nas are not web hardened enough ..they always trail behind (significantly) in security updates ..and thus a prone to hacking

so either run your webserver on a vm or use a dedicated hardware box for it

Thanks. I have a spare Win 10 box so will check that option out. Shame as the Qnap seems so tidy with everything in place but understand the security stuff.

If not setting it up in Qnap, would it be best to install LInux in a VM such as Oracle Virtual Box or Windows 10 Hyper-V

I have looked at Q4OS (Debien) and it actually has a Windows installer. setting up a dual boot. Uses Debien paks for server.
