connecting iscsi remotely

Post by patricksze »

I set up an iscsi target and can connect to it with WINDOWS, provided they are in the same network. However, how can I do the same if I want to access it at work? That is, when the target and the initiator are in different network.

I've already set up a port forwarding setting in my router. The target still cannot be found.

Thanks

never ever forward ports from wan to nas

and dont use iscsi from remote unless you have a rock solid ..fast..vpn connection

remote access (via vpn) should only be done with file (e.g. smb)and not block storage (iscsi)

Thank you for reply. Regarding "never never forward posts from WAN to NAS", how's so?? Is it performance concern or security concern??

I suggest VPN first then iSCSI if you really need iSCSI.

If VPN is used all local ports should be accessible
Can't find target doesn't make sense, that is purely an issue between the local host and target

Thanks all. I'll try VPN. See if it works.

Thanks again.
